Description

You are bidding on an original 1st pressing Blue Note LP (BLP 1534) of Paul Chambers Sextet, "Whims of Chambers". This was the first recording album of Chambers as a leader. Issued in 1956, its lined up with all jazz legends of all time as John Coltrane, Donald Byrd, Horace Silver, Kenny Burrell, and Philly Joe Jones. Superb soloing on many themes, hard bob and also a beautiful ballad (Dear Ann).
Produced by Alfred Lion / Recording Engineer: Rudy Van Gelder / Cover photo by Francis Wolff / Cover design by Reid Miles
Tracking:

  1. "Omicron" (Donald Byrd) – 7:21
  2. "Whims of Chambers" – 4:06
  3. "Nita" (John Coltrane) – 6:34
  4. "We Six" (Donald Byrd) – 7:42
  5. "Dear Ann" – 4:21
  6. "Tale of the Fingers" – 4:44
  7. "Just for the Love" (John Coltrane) – 3:43

This one is an original LP with Deep Groove on both sides, RVG on both sides, and also EAR mark on both sides.
I've playtested the LP by my system of Thorens TD-124 with CELLO Palette preamp and CELLO Duet 350 amplifier, with RED ROSE Classic Speakers. The record played very nice on both sides. Side One is played Near Mint with no pop and tick at all. Side Two would have been graded Near Mint too but there is a microfine fellable line (please see photo) at the end of song no.4 near the dead wax area which produced around 25 ticks on the background during music time (no skip or stuck). Otherwise, no ticks and pops at all. So, I downgraded Side Two to VG++
The cover is fine on 3 sides except for small split of only around 1 inch at the bottom right. (see photo)

I WILL PACK THEM STRONG FOR A LONG JOURNEY. DON'T WORRY!
I'VE SOLD MANY 1ST PRESSING BLUE NOTE AND OTHER HIGH-VALUED COLLECTIBLE RECORDS.  PLEASE SEE MY FEEDBACK AS A SELLER.
