Another from my personal collection! A very very rare and scarce 1st UK Vertigo Swirl pressing! Purchased from new in 1971 only ever played three or four times from new,, stored in a case with the vinyl seperated from the sleeve and cover, this is how I have always stored my records! The audio is absolutely perfect on my systems graded as good as it gets! (In fact you can still see the plastic in the spindle hole)  For any avid Vertigo collectors out there,will appreciate how rare this UK album is in any condition let alone in this tip top condition! Quite unbeleivable to ever find like this after 38 years!! Having collected most of the Manfred Mann albums since the sixties, when this Paul Jones solo album  was released in 1971,   this was an obvious choice for me to purchase! Please do not underestemate the rarety of this album, just scan through ebay and the net to see how rare this is especially in this awesome condition, THIS IS ONE OF THE RAREST VERTIGO PRESSINGS TO EVER FIND LIKE THIS! !

Crucifix In A Horseshoe is the solo album by Paul Jones released in 1971 on the Vertigo label in the UK! A very scarce and hioghly collectable album rarely seen in this condition and barely played more than three or four times ever!!

As lead singer of Manfred Mann during their early run of hits such as "Doo Wah Diddy Diddy," "Pretty Flamingo," and many, many others, Paul Jones was far more influential than people realize. Artists such as Arthur Lee have cited him as a primary influence, and for that fact alone, he should be recognized. After leaving Mann in 1966, Jones made one of the greatest cult films of all time, 1967's Privilege. This, though, his solo debut, is another step altogether. Always one of the more literate rockers of his era, Jones spends most of his time on this album making fun of stardom and all that goes with it. Hotel rooms, groupies, and the general grind of it all is the subject matter here, and it's all quite a bit of fun. As far as the music goes, much of it is more laid-back than anything Jones did with Manfred Mann, with a lot of country leanings. Thomas Jefferson Kaye's production is a bit heavy-handed -- which is not much of a suprise. But in the end, it is an interesting record, sounding very much like a roots-oriented David Bowie record, slashing the tires of a car named "stardom."

Paul Jones..

In 1962 Jones became resident singer with Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated (alongside Long John Baldry, both towering out above a shorter third vocalist, the aspiring Michael 'Mick' Jagger). Jones then went on to be the vocalist and harmonica player of the successful 1960s group Manfred Mann. He had several Top Ten hits with Manfred Mann before going solo in 1966!!

He is also a member of The Blues Band and The Manfreds, a group reuniting many original members of Manfred Mann, and has also played harmonica as a session musician on recordings by artists including Gerry Rafferty, Dave Edmunds, Katie Melua, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Marti Webb.!

The Vinyl

The very important thing to note!  This is the original heavier thicker type of vinyl with deeper grooves only found on these original 1st pressings!!! They are also more robust than later pressings which were more flimsier!!!!

On initial inspection thisd vinyl looks like new! It is also quite obvious that this has barely ever been played (Please see photos you cvan still see the plstic in the spindle hole) Please note I can't see any needle scratches or indeed any audio sounding marks at all! Certainly (no) marks that are audio sounding! Anu marksd that could possibly be seen angled to a strong light would be sleeve removal only, to be honest it is hard to even see a blemish on this playing surface!

The Audio Quality

  I have played this through track for track as usual at very loud volume on a top system. The audio is rated as good as it gets in my opinion!

 ON ALL FREQUENCIES! (THE BEST THAT I HAVE HEARD OF THIS PRESSING) This is cristal clear and vibrant through out. This plays with no background noise or crackle at all with (no) signs of any distortion or that this has been overplayed!!!! I would class myself as highly critacle! Please look at my completed listings of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right!!!! Audio is graded at the top!!! You will find the audio quality on this vinyl hard to surpass!!!!! THIS HAS BEEN HARDLY EVER PLAYED IN 34 YEARS!!!!!! TOP TOP AUDIO! TRY TO FIND BETTER!!! THIS LOOKS AND SOUNDS  VIRTUALY  UNPLAYED!! UNBELEIVABLE FOR 38 YEARS OLD!!!

Please note! I always add this disclamer! That I have honestly described this vinyl to the best of my ability and have taken the time to play this through track for track for any problems. Although I never heard any problems at all other than what i have described, Please allow for the odd static\tick not consistant through out the audio. This is a genuine original pressing (not a reissue) that is 34 years old and would have been played on a 34 year old system.!!!!

Points to note! This album has been stored in a case with the vinyl seperated from the cover for protection for at least 25 years! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves from laying dormant causes static ticks\crackle. A constant clean before each play is highly recomended! This will reduce any static and enhance the audio quality!

These are the oprigional Verytigo Swirl labels very near perfect! 1st issue with the 'Large swirl logo' (only 1st press) Any spider marks can be counted on one hand (little if (no) spindle ware the hole is perfectly round!

This is the original Vertigo sleeve in awesome condition! No splits or tares light staining\faiding with age and small number written on one side only this cover grades at least excellent!

The Cover

This is the original 1st issue Unlaminated  Vertigo gatefold cover! In stunning condition , lovely and straight square corners! Very minor storageware to ever talk of any rubbing you have to  look for to notice at the edges and the spine! and slight rubbing ware on the inside only. Unbeleivable original 38 years old like this! This must grade at least excellent to excellent plus!!
