Label Conditions: Both as made with just a tiny nick fold on side one, clearly seen on my picture, that is a manufacture blemish. Played once from new by the one owner, of course I played to check the pressing quality, which as you would expect, is fantastic.

Mode / Speed: Stereo / 33.3 rpm.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Record: 170 grams. A massive weight for any standard record. Many modern reissue albums are (apparently) audiophile pressings on 180 gram vinyl and promoted as such. This is simply as this limited pressing came, no gimmicks and superbly, and FULLY manufactured in the UK.

Country of Manufacture: England – that is both cover AND record.

Rarity: Very scarce on vinyl: this was quite limited on this format that in 1997 was deemed a specialist way of listening to music. It peaked at number 2 in the UK album charts, but most sales were on CD, and those that bought the record tend to hang on to it. A once-played full and genuine UK copy will not be seen or offered often.

Brief Info: Issued in 1997, after a four year break, to almost ectastic reviews and it sold well. But very few on the strictly limited vinyl run. On the strength of the reviews at the time, I bought a copy myself and was absolutely delighted to hear this man sound so wonderful again. The reason why?, well it sounds very similar to The Beatles material and style. Beautifully produced with excellent songs with backing from top quality musicians as seen above, this really does take you back to the Fab Four era and I personally regard this as his very best post-Beatles album. A genuine classic and great to see this wonderful package made in the UK for real authenticity for this great Liverpool artist. This super-heavyweight record barely even run-in, played just once prior to my purchase. You are unlikely to find an available example of this mini-classic better.

Cover Grade and Format: MINT: as made. An unlaminated, very matt finished gatefold cover with gently textured surfaces. Printed and made in England and made with quality, heavyweight card with a thick spine. I will not waste time describing all the elements of this cover – it is little short of pristine as made with nothing of any note worthy of faulting. Cover-protected from new and I doubt if it has seen light of day since it arrived from the shop. This 15-year-old cover retains the looks and freshness of new.

The Inner Sleeve: MINT(-): and the tiniest (-) possible. An unlined card double-sided printed lyric inner. The only microscopic blemish is a tiny crease on the lip of the recess for opening, that apart, pristine. Get out the magnifiers!!

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: MINT(-): or better. A barely used record that is very clean, shiny, intense black and massively pressed with a weight that also takes you back to the vinyl heyday of the 1960s. Any visual blemishes seen are within the pressing with just the odd ultra fine hairline trace, which records stored within hard cover inners rarely escape. So again, pretty much as made and with sound quality to match. Visually a super record that should please most-all collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This very heavy, thick UK-made record plays even above it’s high visual grading with nothing to fault of any note. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is of audiophile standard with immaculate production and realism. This has the ultimate detail and presentation only the vinyl record can truly offer with a wide dynamic range and sonic delivery. Any surface sound traces barely even registered and no pops or noteworthy ticks were noted and this is an exceptional clean pressing. With all the care of sound and manufacuture, a slight shame a line inner bag was not used, but for sure, it was stored in one after purchase. I am certain this record has hardly been removed from the cover and has been clearly well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record – this is McCartney back to his ultimate best. This copy will prove near impossible to find better and is unreservedly recommended. If you like The Beatles, you WILL LOVE THIS TOO.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
