This is a bone fide EMI TEST PRESS of Paul McCartney's 'Press Play' 12" single. These test pressings were usually pressed up before promo copies of the finished single and are EXTREMELY rare. Exact figures of the test press run are impossible to pin down, but as these discs were intended for internal use and approval, there couldn't have been more than 50 pressed. These were printed up without 'press sheets' as they were not intended to leave the company!

This disc comes in a standard paper inner with the catalogue and matrix information scribbled onto it by technical staff at EMI. On the rear of the sleeve, the member of staff has also written '12"' underlined. The labels are the distinctive 80s 12" white labels with a single small ridge around the centrehole. The matrix numbers are stamped and their font and impression will be very familiar to anyone who collects in EMI records. On SIDE B of the disc is the text: 'UNTESTED PRESSING for technical staff only.' I have NEVER seen this stamp before, and it attains to the real rarity of this record. This 12" was EXTREMELY limited in its run... possibly as little as 10 were ever pressed up. This certainly the first and only copy I have ever seen!

I am listing this rare item at a LOW starting price and with NO RESERVE, as per usual. This is your chance to grab an utterly amazing rare Macca item: Have any of these even ever been on ebay? GOOD LUCK!!

CONDITION OF VINYL: VERY GOOD +. The vinyl is in nice shape, with only some minor paper scuffing on the surface. There are couple of hairlines visible toward the start of SIDE B, but there are NO marks which you can see in ordinary light. There are no spots of sustained wear, only minor 'cross stitching' surface marks which are largely due to removing the disc from the paper inner. PLAYBACK is honestly graded at NEAR MINT. The sound reproduction on this 12" is simply STUNNING. Of course, the fact that it is a 12" single generally means better pressed, louder cut, and wider grooves, but the needle glides through this 12" with NO surface noise... the run in/out grooves are amazingly silent and the music is CRYSTAL clear. I cannot say for definite if these are UNRELEASED MIXES, they may be! This is a STUNNING rarity! YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!

CONDITION OF SLEEVE: I will supply a hard inner bag to compliment the standard paper inner illustrated on the photographs. I will also provide a PVC sleeve.

I am an avid collector of many, many genres and keep my records in IMMACULATE condition. I grade according to the Record Collector Price Guide 'Ready Reckoner' and almost NEVER sell anything which is below EXCELLENT condition. Rest assured that my EXCELLENT is bloody EXCELLENT! Oh yeah and I NEVER GRADE ANYTHING MINT THAT IS NOT SEALED!! Near Mint is the highest grading I use for unsealed records.

All records will be sent within two days MAXIMUM of receipt of payment (usually within 4/5 hours of payment received). Your record will be expertly packed in a professional brown mailer, using one or two stiffeners and housed in a PVC 12" sleeve with the record in a paper inner placed outside the sleeve as is standard practice. I've always been lucky when buying records from ebay (save the odd occasion) and would like all buyers of my records to be 100% SATISFIED!
