Label Conditions: Both very clean, fresh and attractive with only a tiny few, very light, fine and faint spindle traces and no wear around the hole area. Another gem from a hardly played collection.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Record: 140 grams. A more typical heavier pressing than subsequent later ones.

Rarity: Scarce as a first issue with both sides having -1 / -1 matrixes. Also first issue covers were fully laminated – that is both inside and out – later ones were not laminated inside.

Brief Info: The second post-Beatles album and the only one credited to both Paul and Linda. Like his first solo album, this received no better reviews at the time, but time has reappraised both far more favourably. Made without a regular band, this was not an overly commercial title, it included no hit singles of any note either. Early issues are not easily found – they included a fully laminated cover whereas later ones were only protected on the front and back. This is a superb example, barely played and offering fantastic sound quality. This could prove a considerable upgrade for many and fans needing this more elusive vintage album, finding on much better will prove beyond difficult.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(++): and the merest whisker off my highest grading of Mint(-). A quite robust FULLY laminated gatefold format with a wide spine. Printed and made in England and includes the plain white polylined heavy-duty inner.

Lamination: All areas of this cover are exceptional and beautifully preserved. Both insider and out retain very fresh, shiny and clear laminate that has just one near microscopic lift (bottom front left corner), but look very hard. No dulling or creasing worthy of note. Even under light, any surface traces are minuscule, ultra fine and faint and it retains rich vibrant colour. The inside spine hinge area is uncracked or peeled and still has a fine ‘spring’. So few of these will have this area still intact and this fragile working part of the laminate is still ultra smooth and scuffed to the fingertip. These small details make the difference between average and exceptional – and this cover is truly that – exceptional.

Top Edge: Both show barely any wear at all. The odd end back panel burr trace being critical and still quite straight. Fully laminate covers have a tendancy to bow due to laminate contraction, this has minimal evidence and both faces light flat.

Bottom Edge: Similar again, even better if anything.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, sharp with barely any hint of wear, any thickening or burring very mild and faint as seen viewed critically end-on. Record enters on the back edge, the front is closed, both guaranteed untrimmed.

Spine and Text: Solid and thick, straight with minimal compression and folded square, so the edges meet up very closely together and parallel. Again, the small things make the difference. All text is perfect and unworn under the solid and uncracked laminate, this appears unpeeled, a trait from which this, and similar covers often suffer.

Corners: Any tip rubs are tiny, few and very faint indeed and all retain excellent or better shape with no dinks or creasing of any note.

Cover Summary: A very strong all-round example of this rarer fully laminated early 70’s original cover, one that will prove very difficult to find much better. This beautiful item should please most-all collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(++): a plain white polylined inner that has hardly aged at all – like the rest of the set really. The lining ultra clear and uncreased, or even crinkled as seen through two pristine window circles. Any creasing or crinkle light, few and light and all edges unsplit with no repairs. Still very white too.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++): a very fine visual copy that is very clean, shiny, intense black and very solidly pressed. A copy with minimal plays on all the evidence with any surface trace marks few, very light and faint as seen critically under bright angled light. Visually a super record that should please many, if not most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This rarer -1/-1 matrix copy plays even above it’s high visual grading with practically nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and no pops or clicks were noted and this is an exceptional clean pressing. Few copies will outperform this early pressing significantly I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been clearly well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Another impressive copy from the collection of hardly played records and nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record. This copy will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
