This is the ONLY Pressing that Contains "A Land Called Somewhere"
The original Paul Simon Songbook came out in 1965. but was never released in the US. It is Paul Simon, all by himself, before he teamed with Art Garfunkel performing solo versions of now classic tunes. As a result, Silver Platter bootlegged it but with different versions and or titles. This is an earlier version of the Silver Platter Records bootleg (likely pressed around 1969–1970).
The tracklisting includes "A Land Called Somewhere" (see next paragraph) and "To Emily Whenever I May Find Her", and reveals this copy is not just a straight dub of The Paul Simon Song Book. Instead, the bootleggers used a mix of the 1965 UK acoustic tracks and previously unreleased demos to pad out the record. A Simple Desultory Phillipic is WAY different than the official release, for example, and the solo verson of Sounds of Silence is another one worth the price of admission!
"A Land Called Somewhere" is a rare alternate title for "The Side of a Hill" and this is the ONLY pressing where it appears. The song was a solo acoustic piece about a child killed in war. It was never released on a studio album by Simon & Garfunkel, but the lyrics were famously reused as the "Canticle" counter-melody in Scarborough Fair.

This album comes in a plain white generic outer sleeve with Paul Simon Songbook stamped on the cover, but the back is all hand written. In the world of 1970s bootlegging, handwritten tracklists usually meant the records were being moved before the jackets were finished. This copy is likely one of the very first batches Silver Platter produced. They had the vinyl pressed and the "Blue Title" jackets ready, but the back-cover printing wasn't done yet. The "Underground" Hand", Often these were written by the record store owner or the bootlegger themselves using a stencil or felt-tip pen. And on this copy, the listed Side 2 before side one!
If you are a fan of Paul Simon, this this is a must have addition to your collection. It gives a rare insight to his early song writing, and preview so many of his now famous songs...
As with almost every album I sell on eBay, this has been PLAY TESTED for accuracy. It has the light blue Silver Platter labels on the discs themselves. Based on the wear aroung the spindle holes, these albums have been played many times before, but fortunately on decent systems as there is only a minor amount surface noise. I replaced the awful paper innersleeve with an acid free version The outer jacket apparently had some splitting at the spine as it has been repaired neatly with scotch tape, but that was done before I obtained it. I have also place it in mylar outer to keep it from any further damage.

Needless to say, everyone's system is different. That said, I cannot account for what you will experience during playback, but on MY system, it played exactly as described above. It is sold as-is.

Because the post office is so incredibly inept, I ONLY SHIP domestic packages INSURED, which is AUTOMATICALLY INCLUDED in the shipping cost, and that is not free as the post office charges for it. If your parcel gets lost OR damaged in freight, your item will be replaced if one is available OR you will be completely refunded!
IMPORTANT MONEY SAVING TIP! If you are buying more than one of my items and would like to SAVE MONEY by COMBINING SHIPPING costs, I will be happy to do so, but eBay has now made it more difficult to get discounts by confusing people with "Buy it Now" and "Add to Cart" options on non-auction style pages.
