PEARL JAM Ultra Rare UNRELEASED 90-92 Box Set Sampler

THE RAREST PEARL JAM RECORD THERE IS ? PROBABLY !

Here is as rare a Pearl Jam collectible as it gets--the unreleased black vinyl "1990-1992 Boxed Set Sampler" EP. This 4 track ep was never circulated and has only recently been added (as a test pressing) on the pjcollectors.com website (see this link: http://www.pjcollectors.com/detail.asp?id=1951 ).

This ultra rare picture sleeve EP was pressed to promote the "1990-1992" box set, and includes not only the tracks "State of Love And Trust"/"Oceans"/"Deep" and "Evil Little Goat", but after the 4th track there is a 5th hidden track not listed on the label. It's in a locked groove, meaning when "Evil Little Goat" ends, it appears like the side is over. But if you lift the needle an set it back down, there is a short instrumental that starts off with mainly drums and bass, then a voice which says (at least this is what it sounds like it says) "Hello, this is Abe Vigoda and I just want to say that Alice In Chains rocks my world." (Abe Vigoda is an American character actor, and it sounds as if this is just Pearl Jam screwing around during a recording session.)

This promo ep was pressed in 6 different colors (black/red/clear/gold/white/silver) with a wrap around paper sleeve and clear vinyl sleeve (each has a sticker, the background color of which matches the color of vinyl inside.) It was evidently made to be a "thank you" to those involved with making the box set a reality, but evidently it wasn't ever circulated (perhaps someone was unhappy with the hidden track ?)

I was fortunate to obtain a set and one extra black vinyl copy--offered here--from someone close to the project (I also obtained the very rare white vinyl "Backspacer" LP and blue vinyl "Fixer" from him--major Pearl Jam rarities I sold last year.) In researching it, I have had many communications with Megadave (Dario) of the pjcollectors.com site, who initially had not known about this rarity--but now acknowledges that he knows of someone besides me who has the whole set, and that it is indeed authentic. The pjcollectors site only has pictures of a small hole test pressing. Megadave has tried to purchase my set, but I'm not interested in selling it at present--so this black vinyl example is what's offered here. Both sleeve and disc are in mint condition and probably unplayed before I played this just once.

PJCOLLECTORS.COM UPDATE-Paul Dalowsky of the ultimage Pearl Jam discography, pjcollectors.com, has confirmed that they have now "investigated this item fully and received from official sources confirmation that this is a legitimate item." Paul, one of the site's main contributors, very kindly told me to use his name (I believe his ID on the site is pdalowsky) in verifying this and his quote is that this "elevates this to being one of the rarest PJ items known. And one that will be in high demand." I have sent him photos of the different colored discs in this edition, and he tells me they will be added to the site very soon. Kind thanks to Paul for his research and efforts in validating this.
