Original 1969 U.K. first issue "no EMI box" stereo pressing released on the Harvest label SHVL 752.

Description :

Very rare and hard to find psych prog classic.

Brown formed Pete Brown and His Battered Ornaments in 1968,[and in 1969 the band recorded two albums; A Meal You Can Shake Hands With In The Dark and Mantlepiece, with a line-up including Pete Bailey (percussion), Charlie Hart (keyboards), Dick Heckstall Smith (sax), George Kahn (sax), Roger Potter (bass), Chris Spedding (guitar) and Rob Tait (drums). Brown then suffered the ignominy of being thrown out of his own band, the day before they were due to support The Rolling Stones at Hyde Park. His vocals were then removed from Mantlepiece and re-recorded by Chris Spedding, and the band was renamed The Battered Ornaments

Condition ~ Vinyl :

The super clean vinyl is in VG++ condition with just the very faintest signs of use and a few light non-audible surface hairlines.

Audio Quality :

The sound quality is absolutely superb with virtually no background noise at all, hardly even a click or a pop. It's a sheer delight to listen to. Stunningly crisp and clear!!!

Condition ~ Sleeve :

The classic striking laminated gatefold sleeve is in overall great shape with just very light bottom edge wear a couple of light creases. EXCELLENT condition.

Condition ~ Inner Sleeve :

Comes complete with the original Harvest poly-lined inner sleeve which is in excellent condition.

Condition ~ Labels :

Both labels are nice and clean showing only light spindle wear. No writing.
