PETER HAMMILL - FOOL'S MATE (1971)
[ Mine seems to be the only (original Pink Scroll) one on sale on eBay in the UK - looking through the world of eBay , there seems to be only 2 more : in Germany and South Korea , asking £142 and £109 respectively . ]
This is the original pressing of Peter Hammill's debut solo album . All his bandmates from VDGG , some members of Lindisfarne and Robert Fripp appear on the album . Here is some more info :
"Fool's Mate is the debut solo album by Peter Hammill of progressive rock band Van der Graaf Generator. The title is both a chess and tarot reference. It was produced by Trident Studios' in-house producer John Anthony. The album was recorded in 1971, in the midst of one of Van der Graaf Generator's most prolific periods. Hammill used the album to record a backlog of songs which were much shorter and simpler than his Van der Graaf Generator material, and declared on the original album sleeve: "This isn't intended to be any kind of statement of my present musical position, but at the same time, it is an album which involves a great deal of me, the person, basically a return to the roots."
Fool's Mate includes one of Hammill's most celebrated love songs, "Vision", which he still performs regularly in concert to the present day. Guest musicians on the album included the members of Van der Graaf Generator, members of his label mates Lindisfarne, and guitarist Robert Fripp.
The UK music press was generally very positive about Fool's Mate. Melody Maker saw "one of THE albums of the year".
The cover was designed by Paul Whitehead who at the time was the favourite cover artist for Charisma bands Genesis and Van der Graaf Generator."

Condition .
For 44 years old I would say the LP is in very good condition .
The cover has a slightly textured feel - the condition is good apart from the edges being slightly worn/scuffed .
The white paper inner sleeve is slightly discoloured , but has no splits or tears .
The vinyl is nice and shiny and has a few lines/marks on it . I am no expert , but would possibly call the condition VG . There is some dust on the vinyl . I do not have the expertise/equipment to attempt to clean the vinyl .

I looked at the LP again , and to me the condition is quite good - I stated above that I believed it to be VG , but I am no expert on this . There is a mark on side A to the top right of the label ( seen in photo 3 ) , but it does not feel like a deep scratch . Also the record is dusty - I cannot really try to clean it .

Side B - CAS 1037 B - 2 U " " " " " " , " " " " ( " " " ) O
ALSO - there appears to be "1"'s on both sides , left of the label .
