Vinyl Condition
Excellent - Visually this record is in Excellent condition and has maintained its sheen. There are a small number of very light hairline scratches but only noticeable when closely inspected. There are a couple of very light spindle marks but no other signs or damage to the labels. There is some light vinyl crackle in the quiet places, common with an album of this age, but overall the audio quality on both sides is Excellent with no major sound deterioration.
Sleeve Condition
Excellent – This textured gatefold sleeve is in Excellent condition with no noticeable signs of damage. There are no visible signs of discolouration or ringwear and it has maintained its bright colouring. The spine and edges are fully intact and show no marks or damage.
Record Information
Fool's Mate is the debut solo album by Peter Hammill of progressive rock band Van der Graaf Generator. The title is both a chess and tarot reference. It was produced by Trident Studios' in-house producer John Anthony. The album was recorded in 1971, in the midst of one of Van der Graaf Generator's most prolific periods. Hammill used the album to record a backlog of songs which were much shorter and simpler than his Van der Graaf Generator material, and declared on the original album sleeve: "This isn't intended to be any kind of statement of my present musical position, but at the same time, it is an album which involves a great deal of me, the person, basically a return to the roots."
Additional Information
This is a fantastic original pressing of this classic 1971 album on the much sought after Charisma pink scroll label. It is from my personal collection and will be a great addition to any progressive rock collection.
