The Pharcyde are like a rap group from bizarro-world, known to the public for decades thanks to their cheeky lyricism and light-footed beats and rhymes, as well as the occaisional out of this world video. First out in 1992, Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde smells distinctly of Los Angeles - this was the period in which Cypress Hill also emerged - indulging in vinyl-textured beats and speakerphoney lyrics, almost mocking the sounds of contemporary artists like the Beastie Boys or De La Soul from a 'realer' perspective. The production on this classic album is cheerful, audiophilic and advanced, portraying a freak ride in their purpose-built rap theme park.
