Notes : all compositions and orchestra by Piero Umiliani. One record features 11 works performed by groups : their recordings took place in different sessions in Rome and Milan , in 1962 and 1966. ; the second LP includes , instead , big orchestra's performances , recorded in Milan , in March 1963 and February 1966.  What Umiliani presents to jazz fans  in these two records is indeed a rich dish and an extremely varied one too. In playing these records , we will not only be able to listen at some of the best Italian soloists but also to enjoy jazz music that go from the soul atmosphere in passages like " FAST AND BLUES " , " VEEMENTE " and " SPIRITUAL " to " FUGA IN JAZZ " so close to Bach's music and swing tunes , like those of the golden age of jazz performed by soloists parading on the first record. Moreover, we notice here and there some exotic flavors : Spanish in " FLAMENCO JAZZ " , vaguely oriental in " SALOME YE' YE' " , Caribbean in " LE CHITARRE DI TRINIDAD " , which is a calypso. There is really a lot of music in these two records , a lot of jazz music : indeed the best composed by Umiliani from 1962 to 1966.   A MUST for the Italian Jazz's collectors !!!
