Pierre Henri "Voile d'Orphee I et II" LP issued for the Prospective 21 siecle series by Philips (836.887 DSY) in France, 1968. ****** Rec:ex / Cov:ex ****** Top classic concrete music classic by Pierre Henry in top conditions, including "Voile d'Orphee I" (1953) for magnetic tape; "Voile d'Orphee II" (1953) for magnetic tape; "Entite" (1960) for magnetic tape; "Spirale" (1956) for magnetic tape. Beautiful original reflective silver cover issue of these superb early electronic musique concrete works. Together with "Le Voyage" and "Noir a Soixante + Granulometrie" (also on sale on this same ebay auction), this one is one of his best musique concrete works. This is the original 1st pressing on french Philips Prospective 21 Siecle label with silver effect cover, white back cover and green labels. Electronic musique concrete masterpiece, very hard to find! Cover and Vinyl are in excellent condition, not needed to tell you how hard is to find these Prospective 21 Siecle pressings in better condition. According to the notes, written over a decade after Henry first realized these pieces, "here in the infancy of musique concrete he had already reinvented everything: a mysterious quality in the orchestral fabric, a large, complex rhythmic structure, a polyphony of rhythms and sound planes obeying no known rules and nevertheless achieving a unity, an internal logic..." Voile d'Orphee" was considered at the time the first major epic work of musique concrete, and incorporates heavily tape-manipulated vocal and harpsichord sounds. After most traditional studies in the Academy of Paris, with Olivier Messiaen (harmony) and Nadia Boulanger (composition), Pierre makes, in 1949, the decisive meeting of Pierre Schaeffer, with whom he founds the GRM (Group of musical research), dedicated to the experimentation in "concrete music". It is besides in collaboration with Schaeffer that it will in particular write the "Symphonie pour un homme seal" (1950) and the concrete opera "Orphée" (1951), taken again later (1953) with the astonishing sequence "Le Voile d'Orphée", where one finds already the stretching of the duration, characteristic of his style, and the presence of the death, which will not cease inspiring him. After having founded his own studio Apsom, he undertakes a long collaboration with the choreographer Maurice Béjart. Working initially in the direction of a certain purification, with the ballet "Le Voyage" (1962), according to the Tibetan Book of Dead, and the famous "Variations pour une porte et un soupier" (1963), he returns to a certain baroquism with the "Messe de Liverpool" (1967-68) and the "Apocalypse de Jean" (1968).
