Here I have for sale the UK release of the TV soundtrack LP to 'The Pilgrim Pope' (1982), featuring original recordings of the events of Pope John Paul II's first visit to Britain in 1982. Narrated by Gerald Priestland.

Condition (refer also to notes at bottom):
Vinyl – VG-EX. Looks clean on visual inspection. A few scuffs on first tracks of side B. Played just pre-listing and sound clarity is great. Some minor static in places but vocals, chorals and commentaries are clear and bright. Overall, a decent copy.
Cover (outer sleeve) – EX-M. Colours remain vibrant and unfaded. Just a few corner nicks, the odd dent/scuff and very minor creasing. Could be harder to find a better copy.
Inner sleeve – EX. Original. White 'window' paper with squared corners. Minor crimping/creasing in one corner. A decent example. Insert – EX. Original. Cream paper with brown printed text on one side showing the details of the cues. Superb.

About the Pope's visit:
Pope John Paul II's visit to the United Kingdom in 1982 was the first visit to that country by a reigning pope. John Paul II arrived in the United Kingdom on Friday 28 May 1982, and during his time there visited nine cities, delivering 16 major addresses. Among significant events were a meeting with Queen Elizabeth II, the Supreme Governor of the Church of England, a joint service alongside the then-Archbishop of Canterbury, Robert Runcie at Canterbury Cathedral, meeting with and addressing the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland at The Mound, and five large open air Masses in London, Coventry, Manchester Glasgow, and Cardiff. Following his six-day visit which took him to locations in England, Scotland and Wales, he returned to the Vatican on 2 June.

Unlike the 2010 papal visit of his successor, Pope Benedict XVI, John Paul II's was a pastoral rather than a state visit, and was consequently funded by the Catholic Church in the UK rather than the Government. The trip was almost cancelled because Britain was then at war with Argentina, which had invaded the British possession of the Falkland Islands. This visit had to be balanced for fairness with an unscheduled trip to Argentina that June. Over 2 million people attended events hosted by the Pope, with the visit said to be the biggest event for British Catholics since their emancipation.

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.


VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
