PINK FLOYD : A MOMENTARY LAPSE OF REASON
This is a very rare A1/B1 first pressing of this classic and often under-rated LP. Released in 1987 this particular original UK press is in stunning condition and the audio plays to an extremely high standard, for the majority it plays as MINT the quality is astounding.
Visual grading
Under a bright light I can detect a couple of very faint hairlines due to sleeve removal and one very minor mark at the beginning of Side One. The latter has very little affect on the audio as described below. There is a very minor mark literally right at the end of Side Two as detailed below. Such is the sound quality I suspect this stunning first press has been barely played and it retains that fantastic healthy sheen of new vinyl.
Play grading
'Signs of Life' plays extremely well for such an atmospheric and quiet track. There is very quiet lead in static but this soon disappears and then has no interference at all, probably one of the best I have heard in a long time. The clarity and depth continues with 'Learning To Fly' - it has amazing audio with no background noise. In fact the remainder of the side plays in impeccable style with only the faintest of static in a couple of places. The intro to 'On The Turning Away' has absolutely stunning clarity, especially so for being so quiet. I am confident in saying I have never heard better and plays with a clarity and depth that just has to be heard to be believed! There is just one faint click towards the end but apart from that it is near audio perfection :-)
'Yet Another Movie' starts Side Two with minor lead in static again and one small click but from thereon plays superbly with only intermittent and very quiet static towards the end. The quiet intro to 'A New Machine Part 1' is breathtaking! The audio plays practically as new it is that good and the same can be said for 'Terminal Frost'. 'A New Machine Part 2' again stunning with absolute zero static, amazing! 'Sorrow' finishes the LP with great clarity and depth with just a couple of light clicks at the beginning. There is a small mark right at the end so you can hear some light clicks but only when the music is fading.
I cannot stress just how good this A1/B1 pressing is. With only minimal static as you would expect anyway from a vinyl of nearly 30 years old this is very near to Mint audio. It is a real find and would be a fantastic addition for any avid collector.
Gatefold cover
The gatefold is in excellent order with only minimal shelf wear. The edges and wide spine are extremely clean with just a little rubbing on the bottom edge. There is very minor rubbing on the corners and a couple of small creases leading off from the spine. All in all an excellent gatefold with very little wear, I just prefer to give a comprehensive description as my feedback proves. Most sellers would not mention these minor imperfections! The inside of the gatefold and the back cover are in wonderful condition.
Lyric inner
The lyric inner is in great condition with very minor handling wear. No splits or tears.
