Pink Floyd : A Momentary Lapse Of Reason A2/B1 1st Press
This first pressing plays to an excellent standard with only a little interference here and there. It is mainly on the first track intro of each side which is very common on this album as detailed below. Aside from that it plays with great clarity and depth and there are certainly no clicks or pops to be heard.
The gatefold is in excellent condition with hardly any wear and has retained its original shape so well. The lyric inner has no wear at all and is essentially 'as new'.

Visual grading
The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a very strong glossy sheen with no marks or scratches. There are some faint hairlines on each side but nothing that impacts on the quality of the audio. The run out grooves are very clean and the labels are near perfect with only very minimal spindle wear on each side.
Play grading
As is always the case 'Signs Of Life' begins with some crackle on the 'rowing boat' intro but it soon decreases to an acceptable level and once the actual music starts there is only light static in the background. From then onwards it plays extremely well with only very minimal static, just the odd light tick. I will grade the intro as VG- but the remainder has to be Ex+ in my opinion and better than that in many sections.
'Learning To Fly' plays with stunning quality from start to finish with no interference. The clarity cannot be faulted and the audio is so strong and deep here. A Mint- version for sure.
The menacing intro on 'The Dogs Of War' is nigh on perfect with only 3/4 very quiet static ticks and the first verse is equally as good. It then plays with great quality with no sign of any interference. The vocals sections play perfectly and the mid instrumental is a classic example of the clarity and power on offer here. The sax solo in particular is stunning! The rest of the track is of the same 'high end' standard and Mint- is again deserved.
'One Slip' has a few static ticks on the intro but from the 'ringing bell' onwards the playback is superb. Each section plays with sublime clarity and power and...no intrusion. This album was certainly recorded 'loud' yet there is no distortion and the vast majority here is Mint but with an Ex- intro.
The classic 'On The Turning Away' has only a very small number of non-intrusive ticks on the intro and first verse but don't take that as a negative as it still plays extremely well! The clarity is still hugely impressive. Thereafter it plays with faultless precision even during the quieter mid section. The final verse is 'as new' and Gilmour's classic solo then ends this classic with breathtaking quality and for once there is no distortion. It truly is a stunning finale to this emotive track. The intro and first verse are Near Mint and it is then Mint for the remainder.

Quality control wasn't high on the agenda when this album was pressed as the intro on 'Yet Another Movie' is again affected by some static and a little crackle. That's 80s vinyl production for you I guess! I am pleased to say that once the music begins the audio is superb with only a couple of very light ticks. The opening two verses are 'as new' and it continues to play with great precision - the mid instrumental section is breathtaking. Again so loud and powerful and the final two verses are flawless. So VG on the intro and Mint from then on. The 'Round And Around' closing section grades as Ex- as there is a little static.
'A New Machine Part 1' plays very clearly with just some light static in the background here and there. Ex+ is about right.
'Terminal Frost' plays with great clarity from the very first groove and this standard is maintained throughout. There is no interference and the classic mid section is STUNNING in every way! It build to a tremendous crescendo without any distortion and the rest of the track also plays to an exemplary standard. Mint- is fully deserved.
The brief 'A New Machine Part 2' plays so well for a quieter track with only very minimal light static and grades as Near Mint
The intro on 'Sorrow' plays very clearly with only a small number of light ticks but there is no background static. As the track gets going the audio is stunning. It plays with that typical deep sound with no interference of any kind. Each verse and instrumental section plays with genuine precision. The clarity is as close to perfect as could be with only a hint of light static on the fade out. The intro is Ex+ but the remainder is Mint- without a doubt.
In summary this first pressing plays to an excellent standard but with some of the usual static that you always find on some of the intros, mainly on the first track of each side. You cannot escape this! Apart from that the clarity and definition of the audio cannot really be faulted and the vast majority plays with great quality. To be honest I have never found a NM/M copy of this record, this is late 80s vinyl after all! However, this is a very strong version overall.
The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve
The cover is in excellent condition with only minimal shelf wear. The edges are very clean although the top edge of the back cover does have one very small 'cut' line but it is not a split. The wide spine is in superb order with just one minor 'rub' and barely any wear on the corners. The right hand corners are in great shape also with no real wear and the opening edge has only minimal handling wear. The front cover is near perfect with just one small 'scratch' line and a very small corner crease bottom left. The back cover is even better with no faults really, just one small faint crease top right. The inside of the gatefold is immaculate. A fine example overall when you consider how many of these are found in poor condition today.
The lyric inner is 'as new' with no signs of any wear.
Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable // B & W 684 Speakers
This record has been professionally cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
