Pink Floyd – A Saucerful Of Secrets (Columbia, SCX 6258), a very nice, early pressing of the classic second album from 1968. With the band’s original leader, Syd Barrett, now departed, ‘Saucerful’ sees the band, with new guitarist David Gilmour, trying to find a new direction, and, although something of a hotch-potch, the album throws up some marvelous tracks, including the brilliant spacey opener ‘Let There Be More Light’, the classic ‘Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun’ and the ground-breaking title track; there is even room for one final word from Syd, in the haunting album closer, ‘Jugband Blues’.

This is an original - and very rare - stereo version of the LP, with the black/blue Columbia labels, and the matrix numbers YAX 3633 -1 on Side 1, and XAX 3634 -1 on Side 2. The vinyl is in very good condition, featuring some minimal surface noise (as is to be expected of a record this old) but generally very clear sound quality. The vinyl looks lovely, with just a couple of visible scratches which don’t actually affect the sound quality very much. The laminated, flip-back sleeve is also in good-very good condition, with some wear to the edges, and some minor creasing of the laminating. There are also a few minor marks to the back cover. I hope I’m not playing down the condition of this record too much, but I really want to be honest, as it’s not perfect by any means. But, in my opinion, it is a LOVELY copy of an excellent album, and it’s with much, much regret that I’m actually selling it; it is an essential, and much sought-after, addition to every serious record collector’s collection. This is an excellent opportunity to get your hands on such a rare item.
