Description
On offer here is a very early fifth stereo issue of A Saucerful Of Secrets. It is pressed with the black Columbia label with a white Columbia logo and silver text plus two white EMI logos.
Matrix numbers YAX 3633 - 1 / YAX 3634 - 3 / Stampers LM 4 & GG 1 / Cat number SCX 6258
This early press in in wonderful condition for its age. Under a bright light I can only detect the finest of hairlines on Side Two and Side One is in superb condition. The audio quality is crisp and clear and plays with only minimal background noise. 'Set The Controls...' for example sounds stunning. The title track again sounds sublime with only the occasional click. I am amazed at the audio quality considering it is older than me! It has obviously been extremely well looked after. I first believed this was a fourth issue stereo press but because it has a non-flipback cover I have concluded it is a fifth issue. Another clue is that it has 'Jugband Blues' numbered as "4" rather than "3" on Side Two which is common with the fifth issue. Nevertheless this is a superb early press and would be a great addition to any serious collection.
Play tested on my Technics SL-J110R turntable system.
The Garrod & Lofthouse cover has practically no wear and is in fantastic condition for its age. If I am being ultra critical there is just very light creasing on the spine but other than that the laminated cover is 'as new' and definitely the best I have seen. The corners and edges are in wonderful shape and the thin pinched spine is superb also. The back cover still has 'File under Popular : Pop Groups' and the catalogue number printed in the top right hand corner.
Side One I would grade as Near Mint-
Side Two is Ex+
The laminated cover Near Mint-
The labels are Near Mint (no sign of spindle wear)
The original white inner sleeve (Patent Nos 1125555) is Ex (creasing but no tears)

ALL RECORDS ARE PROFESSIONALLY PACKED IN STRONG MAILERS WITH CARDBOARD STIFFENERS. THE RECORDS ARE ALSO REMOVED FROM THEIR SLEEVES TO AVOID CUTTING THROUGH THE COVER AND PUT INTO A SEPARATE SLEEVE, AND THEN PLACED INSIDE A PVC SLEEVE.
