PINK FLOYD - "ALTERNATE SIDE OF THE MOON" SUPER RARE ALTERNATE MIXES OF "DARK SIDE OF THE MOON" Abbey Road Studios, December 1972
Amazing LP, in amazing condition. This record features rough and alternate mixes of the legendary, chart-busting LP "Dark Side Of The Moon." Incredible opportunity to listen to the band at work - a great find for any Pink Floyd fan, not to mention any musician, producer or engineer. Also, just a super-cool rare LP!
Side One features an alternate mix of the entire second side, trailing off at the end with a brain-melting series of repeated vocals not heard in their entirety on the official release. Side Two has a selection of tracks-in-progress, with in-studio banter among the band. You'll hear Roger Water's original acoustic demo of Money, as well as rough versions of Time, Us And Them, and a couple of cool alternate versions of Brain Damage/Eclipse.
The cover has a yellow version of the Dark Side of the Moon cover, which is cool in and of itself. The back cover features a color photo of the band playing live, and the famous heartbeat/rainbow graphic. The LP was put out by Swinging Dog Records in Austria.
This record - disc and sleeve - is pretty much mint. It was still sealed when I bought it, and I have played it only twice. Technically I must list it as "used," but it really is like-new, if not mint.
Condition/Grade - NOTE that I am NOT a professional collector, just an honest record lover - so my grading system is cautious.
• COVER: EX/MINT • Colors bright and vivid, surface glossy and fresh, just barely out of the shrink-wrap. Nice!
• DISC: EX/MINT • When I played the LP just now - which is only the second time it's been played - it sounded great. Surface of the disc is clean and shiny, music sounds incredible. WOW. The first track, "Money," has some clicks at the start, on the first few seconds of the "cash register" part of the intro, but they do not continue through the rest of the song - which makes me think that they were on the original sound effects LP that Floyd used in the studio, or perhaps on a bootleg pressing that this release was copied from...? In any case, they do not continue throughout the song, or the rest of the LP. It's a clean player.
To sum up, I would say this a great gift for any serious Pink Floyd, 60s rock or Prog Rock collector - hell, for anyone who is a student, player, producer or purveyor of modern music. It's not only a great recording, but also a piece of music history - and also just a really cool piece of Floyd memorabilia.
You really should bid now! : )
