Description
Atom Heart Mother 1G/1G (very first pressing - No EMI Logo)
This stunning first press has been hardly played and the audio is of incredible quality and is one of the best I have heard in many a year. Being a first press it obviously does not have the EMI logos on the labels and it still contains the original inner.

Visual grading
This vinyl is in near pristine condition, it is absolutely immaculate. You would not believe just how clean and glossy it still looks and for a 1G/1G press this is so rare. S1 has a very small collection of tiny marks on the first 2/3 grooves and has only 2/3 small spindle lines. S2 is just visually stunning and may well have only been played the once as there is only one small spindle line visible. This is a fabulous first pressing if ever there was one! Plus the overall audio is absolutely stunning.
Play grading
The classic title track has a couple of clicks at the beginning and that is the only true negative that can be said about the entire track. The intro plays with barely any static and then continues to play with stunning audio. There are so many quiet sections and yet they all play with incredible definition. There is nothing intrusive, yes a minor hint of background static here and there, but hey this is a first press vinyl from 1970! In fact this version of 'Atom Heart Mother' is one of the best I have ever heard. So much of it plays to absolute perfection that you have to remind yourself you are listening to a rare 1G/1G press! The clarity, depth and sonic quality is of a wonderful standard and the more you listen to this classic epic the more impressed you will be. Apart from at the very beginning there is no intrusive interference, there is no crackle and certainly no pops and no distortion. The crescendo ending plays with immense power and clarity, wow! Overall this is a stunning listen and will not disappoint.
'If' has about four clicks and a little light static here and there but the actual audio plays very cleanly and the clarity and definition is again first class. 'Summer '68' is a genuine highlight and easily grades as Near Mint the quality is that good. 'Fat Old Sun' is stunning and I do think I have heard better. I always mention clarity but here it is absolutely mind-blowing especially as this is such a quiet track. There is hardly any 'background' and it plays practically as new. The bells, beginning and end, ring perfectly! That is a measure of just how incredible the audio is on this track and is so close to being of Mint quality. The intro to 'Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast' has wonderful audio and continues to play in superlative fashion and again deserves to be graded as Mint, I have quite simply never heard better. There is no obvious interference, the quality is just stunning.
I summary this is one of the best versions of this LP I have heard and to think it is a 1G/1G first pressing. The title track has only minimal interference and if not for the four clicks on 'If' I would happily grade all of Side Two as Mint-. It is getting increasingly difficult to find high quality first pressings but this is one without a shadow of a doubt. Wow!!
Gatefold cover
The G & L gatefold is one of the cleanest I have seen. The edges and spine are extremely clean and there is only some rubbing on the two bottom right corners. The front and back cover are also very clean, the latter with a couple of faint scratch type marks. The inside of the gatefold is immaculate and rarely have I seen better. There is a very small amount of ringwear but I am perhaps being too picky now! The opening edge has very little handling wear.
As per the first pressings it has on the inside "7010 TPS Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd Patent no 943,895 SHVL 781" in the lower left hand corner.
Inner sleeve
The original Harvest poly-lined inner sleeve is in wonderful condition with no splits or tears and has only a minor amount of creasing.
Labels
The yellow/green labels are in superb condition and have only a tiny amount of spindle wear.
