Pink Floyd : Atom Heart Mother 1G / 1G 1st Press 1970 No Emi logo on labels
This very collectable first pressing plays with great quality overall with only a few seconds of interference on the title track during one brief section. Apart from that the clarity and depth on S1 is very impressive and has none of the sound issues so often prevalent on S1 i.e. no obvious 'muddied' sound quality. S2 plays with stunning audio and barely any intrusion and the three opening 'songs' all play with exceptional sonic quality. The vinyl itself is very clean but does have one very small scratch on S1 causing the interference.
The G & L cover is in excellent shape overall and has just some light marking on the back. The original poly-lined inner remains in great condition.
As this is a genuine first press it has the 1G / 1G matrix and no EMI logo on the labels. The gatefold has the '7010 TPS...' etc printed on the inside and S2 has the continuous 'drip' on the run off.

Visual description
The vinyl is in excellent condition with only one minor flaw. It has one very small scratch on S1 resulting in the interference as detailed below. Aside from that is is very clean with a healthy glossy sheen and only a small number of faint sleeve removal hairlines. The yellow / green Harvest labels are unmarked and just have some spindle wear in the centre circle.
Play grading
The very quiet intro on the title track 'Atom Heart Mother' is stunning and plays with barely any static and the opening part of the brass section is equally as good. As the volume increases into the first brass 'chorus' around the 1.20 minute mark there are six clicks due to the small scratch which is a shame as the rest of this classic plays with outstanding sonic quality! The next quiet passage plays so clearly with only a couple of minor ticks and it continues to play with sensational audio from that point on. There is a real sense of depth and resonance to the music and the quieter sections do play with great clarity. The first 'choral' section after 6 minutes or so is a prime example of that, the playback is stunning, and it lasts for over 4 minutes of course! Again there is barely any static and what there is is so incredibly quiet anyway. The following instrumental passage keeps up this fine standard and Gilmour's solo is superb with no background. The next 'vocal' has no interference and the brass 'chorus' that follows is as clean as it was back in '70. I'm up to 15.30 now and only 6 seconds of this opus has played with interference! The psychedelic piece has only the bare minimum of light static here and there but again it is so quiet and totally non-intrusive and the section around the 'silence in the studio' comment is 'as new'. The violin passage plays so clearly and is very quiet of course and Gilmour's final solo and the end 'choral' section could not play any better, the sonic quality is STUNNING! There is no distortion on the finale and overall this has to grade as Ex+ at the very least but with many sections playing better than that. However, the brief section 5/6 second section near the beginning is G only due to the interference. Frustrating I know and if not for that this may well have been the cleanest version of this track that I have heard. It's still very impressive though!

The acoustic intro on 'If' plays beautifully and Waters' opening vocal is just as clean. A couple of very quiet ticks in the brief instrumental interlude and then the next verse plays perfectly. From then on it plays with great clarity with just a light static 'sound' as the third verse comes in and a couple more light ticks, nothing intrusive. The remainder is faultless so I would say Near Mint- is fair.
The piano intro on 'Summer '68' is nigh on perfect with only a couple of dust ticks and Wright's first verse in indeed that, perfect. The first chorus is 'as new' the sonic quality is STUNNING and it continues to play with superb audio from then onwards. I've always loved the overall 'sound' of this track and especially on a clean vinyl like this one and it grades as Mint- without a doubt.
'Fat Old Sun' plays with exceptional quality from the very first 'note'. The church bells are so clear and Gilmour's opening vocal has no intrusion either. It continues to play with stunning precision and there are of course a number of quiet sections which makes the clarity of sound even more impressive in a way. I detected only a handful of mega quiet ticks that obviously do not intrude on the 'listen' and the end solo is has not so much as a dust tick. The closing church bells section is as good as the first and this is a sublime Mint- version for sure.
The 'drip, drip' intro on 'Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast' plays with wonderful clarity and the opening 'vocal' is equally as good. The first musical section is so clean with barely any static and has just one very minor tick following it. One light static click in the next 'breakfast' section and from then on it plays so well and with no interference. The clarity and depth of the audio is stunning and whilst it may not be a 'track' that you would have on repeat (!) there is no doubting the quality here. The main instrumental section could not play any better and there is just one tick near the end. The final 'drip, drip' has no background at all. I think Near Mint- is deserved here, there is barely any intrusion on the audio.
In summary this genuine first press plays to a superb standard overall with only 5/6 seconds of obvious interference on S1. It is unfortunate but that aside this is one of the 'cleanest' examples that I have listened to in a long time. So often the title track has a 'muddy' type audio quality but that is not the case here and the sonics are very impressive. S2 plays with hardly any background and there are certainly no loud clicks or pops plus the entire album has no intrusive static either, a very 'clean' recording overall.
The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve
The G & L cover has retained its shape extremely well and has only a little wear. The edges have hardly any rubbing and the wide spine for once is still 100% legible and has only minimal wear on the corners. In fact only the two lower right corners have a little rubbing / wear and the opening edge is pristine. The front cover is in lovely condition with only a couple of very small faint marks but the back cover does have some fading / light marking mainly top left plus another couple of minor marks. Not in poor condition though. The inside of the gatefold is very clean with just one faint on the far right side and as can be seen it has '7010 TPS Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd...' in the lower left corner as per all the first / early pressings. A strong example.
The original EMI Harvest is in great condition with no side split or tears, only minimal age related fading around the edges and only light creasing.
