Description
ATOM HEART MOTHER FIRST PRESS - STUNNING VINYL
This is the very rare original UK first press of Atom Heart Mother released in 1970 on Harvest Records and of course is the only pressing without the EMI logo on the label.
Matrix numbers A-1G / B-1G Stampers GG 1 2 & RT 2
This is without doubt one of the best first presses I have seen and heard of this classic LP. Under a bright light both sides look wonderful and especially Side Two. Side One has a few small marks at the beginning that only result in a few pops and quiet crackle and a fingerprint type mark towards the end. The rest plays extremely well with very little background noise and only the odd pop. In places the silence is deafening! It is that good. Yes as I say there are only a few pops here and there but for 45 years old this really is in great condition.
Side Two retains a fantastic glossy sheen and you have to look so closely to find even the faintest of hairlines. 'If' plays very cleanly with only slight background crackle here and there, no skips or jumps. 'Summer '68' and 'Fat Old Sun' plays superbly, absolutely stunning the clarity is amazing. Again 'Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast' plays fantastically well with only slight distortion towards the end. Of course this is the rare first pressing where the drip at the end 'Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast' continues into the runoff groove so you would have to remove the needle from any manual turntable.
The Garrod and Lofthouse gatefold is also in excellent condition with only mild wear. You find so many first presses have had their covers swapped but not this one. In the lower left corner, it says "7010 TPS Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd Patent no 943,895 SHVL 781." It really is one of the best I have seen. There is slight rubbing on the corners but the edges are still clean and it retains a strong legible spine. The front and back cover are clear of marks as is the inside of the gatefold, in wonderful condition for its age.
The yellow/green labels Harvest labels (no EMI logo) and with The Pink Floyd above the green Harvest label are in Mint condition with no spindle wear at all.
It also has the original white inner sleeve and has the patent Nos 1,125,555 & 1,072,844 on the bottom. It is advertising other Harvest releases including 'The Madcap Laughs' and 'Ummagumma' amongst others.
This is a great first press. Please be rest assured that this is one of the best first presses that I have seen of this LP and would be a great addition for the true fan to add to their collection.
