Description
Hi, I am Mike, I am 46 and have been a music collector and enthusiast for over 33 years now. We all wish we could turn back the clock and buy those wonderful brand new records from the 60s and 70s, but alas, this is not possible; so I always try to offer the finest and most accurately described and graded records I can find. No vinyl/music lover really would choose to buy second-hand, but this is only way now to own these valuable, prized and ellusive items now. I pride myself on offering a variety of genres to keep my site as interesting as possible. I will rarely offer any record that falls below a true Excellent grading, unless its of a certain rarity which will justify offering a lesser grade. I try, to the best of my ability to describe as accurately and as honesty as I can all items I offer for sale with all the relevant information I can think of to help any potential bidder and collector. You may notice I only submit records sparingly on Ebay - on average ONEADAY, hence the name - time rarely allows for more as I Play-Grade virtually every record I offer in their entirity, not just bits to guess a grade (on a Rega 3 deck with Ortofon cartridge) - visuals alone do not always tell a true or full story - I will mention any defects or flaws no matter how small that I notice to be fair as possible to any interested reader – I am very fussy and my buyers have the right to be too. Every record I offer, whether it be a common or rare item deserves the same respect as far as I am concerned and will be treated the same - just because an item is rare does not always mean its good. I get just as much pleasure offering a relatively common record in stunning near mint condition as the real rare items. All the pictures I use for your guidance are taken with a digital camera or scanned - they are NOT improved, cleaned-up or made better looking than they are with camera trickery or enhancing with digital programmes. What you see is what you get. I hope the item below is to your liking - any questions can be emailed and I will do my very best to answer you. I am enthusiastic , and have a fair degree of knowledge about many genres and I promise quality items - bid with confidence - excellence comes as standard and so does Near Mint regularly. Please assume all records I offer have NO jumps or sticks or writing on covers or labels unless clearly stated to the contrary. Thanks for your interest and Good luck – MIKE.
Please Note: I will now offer any item to the runner-up after the mandatory Ebay 3 days if no contact is made by the winning bidder. The same applies if no payment is received within the mandatory 7 days so any bidder who has just lost out can still email me to reserve the item as priority second chance. Item wants are always welcome - email me with anything needed, you never know - I may just have a copy in stock. I by quality single items and collections also (Email me please if you have quality items for sale).
Debutant Bidders: Many sellers refuse first time buyers: I do not follow this practice (everybody has to start somewhere), but I would appreciate any first timer letting me know their intentions of their intended payment method and very prompt communication, preferably before any bid or soon after the auctions ends. This gives confidence that their intentions are honourable, and I in return guarantee extra special good feedbacks to get zero rated Ebayers off to a flying start to help them with future transactions. NOTE: I WILL NOT ACCEPT BIDS FROM UNREGISTERED USERS, I will cancel them immediately, and sorry, I cannot give valuations on people’s personal items just for their own curiosity, no item can be accurately valued blindly.
Please read all the information carefully - these adverts take an age to compile properly - so it’s well worth a few minutes of your time to read the details thoroughly. I really cannot take any responsibility if any bidder fails to read any facts that are clearly stated in the advert - Thankyou.
Artist or Band: PINK FLOYD
Album Title: Atom Heart Mother
Cat Number: SHVL 781 Stereo (Not issued in mono).
Label and Condition: Harvest, classic original yellow and green format. A very scarce first pressing without the EMI boxed logo and rarer still it has the FACTORY SAMPLE - NOT FOR SALE sticker on side two, this is clearly another one of those Test pressings I have acquired lately. This sticker is totally genuine, I have offered several lately from the same source, its perfect, never removed of repositioned, semi-transparent, I guarantee it hides no imperfections. No picking and fraying, its as clean and fresh as the day the factory stuck it on - it realy has to be seen for real, the viewing completely verifies its authenticity. This is pretty hard to find as a pre-EMI copy anyway but this Factory Sample will be amongst the rarest copies of this Floyd gem you will ever likely to be offered. Both labels are stunning, clean and only show very light spindle traces. This very rare Floyd original has clearly hardly ever been played. No wear whatsoever around the spindle holes and this being a first test pressing will be vastly superior in terms of press quality than subsequent pressings that were often notoriously inferior and very noisy. (Please see label scans for all information needed).
Matrix Nos: SHVL 781 A1-G and SHVL B1-G. The tiny stampers appear to be 12 GH / 2 GL
Country of Manufacture: Gt Britain
Rarity: Any pre-EMI Harvest LP by Pink Floyd is scarce, this being one of the very first off the line will be rare and the actual LP in such fine, lightly played condition, will be very rare - let’s be honest, you are hardly likely to find this one at your local record fayre are you?
Original Year of Release: 1970.
Brief Artist & Album Info: This has to Pink Floyd’s most underrated work, Atom Heart Mother was a brave, if slightly flawed, experiment, partially written with avant-garde composer, Ron Geesin and produced by Norman Smith. It featured the first in a series of impressive album covers, designed by the Hipgnosis studio, none of which featured photographs of the band on the front. This may well be Floyd’s most famous cover as its so distinctive. The album’s first side is taken up with the title track broken down into six segments. Brass, choir and sound effects are used throughout including the roaring motorbike near the beginning. Side two, still with only four songs is more usual period piece Floyd, but ‘Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast’ is pretty strange too. Now this copy on offer is special, it has the 1G matrix on both sides and with that absolutely geniune factory sticker too on a pre-EMI label this will rarely, if ever, be found again. A lovely clean LP that sounds superb, and by far the quietest pressing of this difficult album I have yet heard (as a UK pressing). It comes in the original b&w Harvest advertising inner and with a cover that is around EX, not quite up to the stunning standards of the LP but still nice. A cover this age lacking laminate protection is always a challenge to find pristine and this is a way short of that, but around a solid EX. This rare very early copy should be of particular interest to the serious Floyd collector and any vinyl connoisseur who wants the very first pressings and superior pre-EMI copies that play near to the very top of their potential.
Cover Grade and Format: EX(-) to EX. Gatefold format, unlaminated. Designed by Hipgnosis, made and printed in Great Britain. Always a hard one to find in top condition. At 34 years old and a non-laminate, this is prone to the usual rubbing, fading, grubbiness and ringwear.
Cover Front: A clean front with only a mildish rubbing at the very bottom and a faint trace at the very top. But clean and uncreased with rich colour. The odd light surface mark and pressmarks if viewed very closely. Most all are invisible under normal viewing conditions.
Cover Back: Very similar to the front, maybe a tad more pronounced rubbing with a very faint ring trace.
Cover Gatefold Inner: Near perfect with little to nothing to fault.
Top Edge: Just faint rub traces.
Bottom Edge: The merest hint of faint rubbing only.
Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, sharp with little wear. Record entered on right outside back edge.
Spine and Text: Solid and square with light rubbing, some text has eroded.
Corners: All four show a little minor wear, mostly on the very tips. All still nicely shaped.
Cover Summary: A cover more around the ‘average’ mark, but still quite attractive, this is maybe better than I have led you to believe - but I am very fussy myself.
Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: Mint(-), this is a superb record, heavily pressed and very clean with a good shine. Hardly any marks at all and clearly only lightly played. This is often a very difficult album to find clean and even clean copies are often very noisy, along with Meddle, and some other Harvest albums around this time, especially the repressings, this album suffered badly with surface noise. Well this is an exceptional pressing and is without any doubt at all the quiestest UK pressed Atom Heart Mother I have yet heard. I am not saying CD quiet, but for a record that has many quiet passages, very quiet and this sets a very high standard that most other copies will fall behind.
Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This vintage early pressing plays superbly. Clean, clear sound without any hint of dreaded distortion or sound degrading. Surface sounds were very minimal, even on the quiet sections of which there are several. The clarity and detail on this Factory copy will never be beaten. A very heavy, and deeply grooved copy, this I would feel sure has been played around 3-4 times most. Pops and ticks were virtually nil and my play-grading was a real pleasure. I doubt if I will ever find a copy quite this nice again.
Track Listing: Atom Heart Mother a) Father’s shout; b) Breast Milky; c) Mother fore; d) Funky dung; e) Mind your throats please; f) Remergence; If; Summer 68; Fat Old Sun; Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast a) Rise and shine; b) Sunny side up c) Morning glory.
Album Played For Grading: Yes.
Final Summary: One for the serious Harvest collector. The vintage inner is in super shape like the lovely record, yes the cover is a grade below the rest but still attractive and no serious wear or damage really and its the original, no substitutions at Oneadayrecords, I prefer to keep items together as they came if at all possible. If you need a super clean Pre-EMI 1G/1G copy as a Test pressing, this fine item could be just the one for you. The record itself will take a huge amount of beating. – Mike.
