Description
For sale by auction is an overall excellent condition copy of a FIRST UK pressing of the 'DARK SIDE OF THE MOON' album by PINK FLOYD on the HARVEST RECORDS label (SHVL 804). It is complete with stickers, posters and the original poly-lined black inner sleeve. The following all confirm that it is a first pressing :
- the labels have the 'solid' blue triangle - the matrix numbers end in A-2 and B-2 in the runout grooves - the label rim text begins with 'The Gramophone Co Ltd' at the 10 o'clock position - the sleeve has a slight blue/black colour rather than the 'blacker' colour that was used in later pressing sleeves - this can be seen in photo 2 where the right hand copy is a later pressing - the black inner sleeve has the correct patent numbers of 1125555 and 1072844 printed on it - the stickers have 'Permanent' printed on the back
For its age, the sleeve is in excellent condition with only small amounts of cornerwear and edgewear, a little bit of 'rubwear', a very small amount of ringwear and a few light creases. There are no writing or other marks. This version has the gatefold opening on the right hand side and the left side was originally sealed. The glue has now failed on the left side but there is no damage and it could easily be re-glued to reseal it. Please study all the photos carefully to see the condition for yourself. The album comes with its original posters which, unusually, as so many were blu-tacked to walls, are in near-mint condition and look as though they have not been unfolded very often. The stickers are in mainly excellent, unused condition but the 'yellowy' one has a small 'bump' in one corner. The inner sleeve is also in excellent condition with just a few creases. Again, please study the photos carefully to see the condition for yourself. The labels are in excellent condition with just the usual spindle trails. The record surfaces are also in excellent condition with just a few light surface marks. Playback is superb with only occasional very light surface noise. In fact the only places where I really noticed any noise were on the lead-in and run-out grooves and in one or two of the quietest passages on the album. Definitely no deep scratches, sticks or jumps. Given its age, I would go so far as to say that I would class it as 'near-mint' - definitely excellent plus. I honestly think that you would be hard-pressed to find a better copy. The record will be wrapped in bubblewrap before posting to ensure that it does not get damaged on its journey. I will dispatch the record in a proper record mailer and will post within one working day of purchase by Royal Mail Special Delivery so it would be with you the following day. Although expensive, the service offers full tracking and insurance which is safer both for you and for me. If you are not happy with your purchase then, on return of the item, I promise to give a full no-quibble refund including the original postage cost which means you can buy with absolute confidence.
Forgot to mention in the description that one of the posters has a gloss finish whereas the other has a matte finish. You should be able to see these in the photos.
