Description
Records are visually graded, but I do listen to intros for crackle and clarity, and play through any marks. Please read the entire listing to avoid any misunderstanding.
PINK FLOYD – DARK SIDE OF THE MOON – 2nd ISSUE A3/B2 – NO INSERTS – PROMO – VG
There are no posters or stickers.
The labels are black with outline blue triangles and “The Gramophone Co Ltd” text around the top rim.
The cover has a sealed right front edge, but I can’t decide if it is very dark blue or black (according to the excellent “Pink Floyd Archives” website, the 2nd issue came with either). There is a light purple title sticker at top right on the front and in addition a rectangular sticker that says: “Factory Sample Not For Sale”. There is no mention of this on the record itself except that it has rather enigmatic matrices that I can’t track down (see below).
The cover has bruised corners and some odd dents across the back.
The inner sleeve is black poly lined with silver patent numbers and made in Great Britain. One side is split (see photo) and in addition to the original, I will pack the record in another heavyweight poly lined sleeve.
Matrices:
The stamper letters on both sides are very hard to read, I’ve looked up various possibilities in the Pink Floyd Archive and can’t find them at all. I have included the best photos that I could get and you will have to make your own minds up!
Side 1: SHVL 804 A-3 – the mother number is 1 – in the stamper letters the only certainty is that they start with G.
Side 2: SHVL 804 B-2 – the mother number is 3 – the stamper letters are a bit clearer and could be GLP or GLR.
Condition:
Cover and inner as mentioned above. Labels have a few white spots, age related? In natural light, both sides are very shiny with one visible defect; on side two, about 0.5cm into track one, there is a very light scuff with a white mark in the centre. When played there are 4 or 5 pops associated with this and it is the reason for my VG grading. In a bright light there are a few very light hairlines on both sides, but nothing likely to be a problem.
Apart from the above it plays well, both run-ins have very light crackle audible for the first 10 seconds or so, but fine after that.
