Description

THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON A2/B1 SQ QUADRAPHONIC ISSUE
This rare A2/B1 Quadraphonic pressing The Dark Side of the Moon is in overall excellent condition for its age.  The audio is of a very good standard with only intermittent interference.  The majority plays extremely well with excellent depth and clarity.  Looking at pinkfloydarchives.com I would also say this rare LP is 3rd or 4th on the matrix listing so is a very early pressing indeed.
It also includes the both posters and stickers.

Visual grading
You don't see many of these quadraphonic vinyls today and under a strong bright light there are only a few very faint hairlines.  Quite honestly it visually is in wonderful condition, retains a glossy sheen and has been very well looked after.  It has been played a number of times due to the spindle marks on the labels but the audio is still of a high standard considering its age.
Play grading
There is minimal lead in static on Side One but then there are 5 light clicks.  'Speak To Me' then plays very clearly.  'Breathe' has great audio with only the quietest of static in the background.  'On The Run' if possible plays even better and sounds superb with no background noise whatsoever, how rare is that!  'Time' again plays in similar fashion with no clicks or jumps, perhaps just slightly more static but is very much in the background and you can barely hear it.  This really is a fantastic version and it belies its 43 years of age and has stunning clarity and depth of sound.  'Great Gig...' ends the side with wonderful audio again.  Yes a little static in the background again but let's face it you expect that with vinyl of this age and it is so minimal the majority of sellers would not even mention it.  I do to be completely thorough in my gradings as my feedback testifies.  Even new vinyl can play with static so the fact that it is so minimal here is a testament to the fantastic quality of this vinyl and of course all systems play differently.
There is a little more crackle right at the beginning of 'Money' but this soon dissipates to then play with exceptionally clear audio again.  The clarity here is immense and was a real pleasure to listen to.  The voices at the end come through so clearly, more clearly than other presses in my opinion.  'Us and Them' has faint static at the beginning and three dull sounding clicks.  There is a little more crackle on this track and the last two minutes have an intermittent 'swish' which carries on into 'Any Colour You Like' and then disappears about one minute in.  The sound is still very clear though.  The final two classic tracks again have faint crackle in the background and as is always the case 'Eclipse' has some distortion due to it being the final track on the side where the grooves are pressed closer together in order to 'fit' it onto the side.
Gatefold cover
The Garrod and Lofthouse 'Quadraphonic' gatefold is in excellent condition but with some shelf wear mainly around the edges.  There is more 'rubbing' on the corners and a little to the spine.  There is also some ringwear on the back cover and a few small creases but considering its age it remains in excellent order.  The opening edge is very clean indeed with minimal handling wear.  The inside of the gatefold is also in excellent condition.
Inner sleeve
The vinyl is contained within a black die cut polylined sleeve although it is not the original I believe.  Nevertheless it is in perfect condition.
Labels
The labels are in excellent condition with some spindle wear and a small smudge type mark on Side One.
Posters and Stickers
The two glossy posters are in excellent condition with just one extremely minor tear on the pyramid poster.  Both stickers are in superb condition but have no printing on the backing paper so they may not be the originals.
