My own disc from new in 1973. Stored carefully and unplayed (until today) for over 30 years!!

Originally issued on March 24th, 1973, here we have the record that has become the icon of the seventies. This is a superb copy of the legendary and ULTRA RARE original FIRST PRESSING issue with the 'SOLID BLUE TRIANGLE' label of PINK FLOYD'S masterwork complete with all inserts!!

The vinyl is in a beautiful GENUINE FULL EXCELLENT condition. The first side has only one very light paper scuff mark and a few minimal faint hairlines (these do not affect the playback in any way at all)! Side two is superb, virtually unmarked with only a couple of ultra faint wispy hairlines seen under a strong light and is in superb near MINT condition. An absolute stunner!!!  The audio playback is TRULY STUNNING, OUT OF THIS WORLD powerful and CRYSTAL CLEAR!!! This has to be heard to be believed!!! So much deeper and richer than any later vinyl issue or CD. Both sides play magnificently throughout with only very minimal static, mainly evident during the run in grooves and first few seconds on side one.

The vinyl retains all its original beautiful deep gloss and lustre and is a joy to observe!!! It would be very difficult to find a significantly better original 1st PRESSING 'SOLID BLUE PRISM TRIANGLE' copy!!

Both posters are present and have luckily not been used, so NO creases and NO pinholes. Both stickers are also present and have rips or creases!!! I have folded the posters out for the pictures, this might be only the second time I've ever actually had them out of the sleeve!!!

The original 'Dark Blue' tinged unlaminated matt gatefold sleeve, has 'Printed and made by Garrod and Lofthouse Ltd.' in BLUE PRINT near the bottom left hand corner inside of gatefold (see pictures), and is in excellent condition. There are only a few very minor wrinkles to the front, the back and inside of the gatefold are superb with NO writing and NO tears!! There is a little rubbing to the top and bottom seams and to the extreme corner tips, but this is quite minimal. The front cover , near the bottom edge, has a little fading wear from storage (as is usual with these DARK BLUE originals) and in fact was the major reason that EMI decided to change the sleeve to a black and later glossy black. This ORIGINAL 1st PRESSING gatefold sleeve has a lighter (I would say very 'DARK BLUE') shade than ALL the later black and glossy sleeve re-issues.

The SOLID BLUE PRISM labels are virtually MINT with only very faint spindle traces. NO unwanted writing, NO stickers, NO marks!

UK Harvest SHVL 804, 1973 very first pressing LP, with A2/B2 matrixes, which is the very first of the first pressings. This is a GREAT original copy. Disc is EXCELLENT visually and aurally, superb condition. Shines as new and plays BEAUTIFULLY with only the most minimal surface sound on side one run in. Labels indicate a very few plays only. I've probably only played this between 10 and 15 times in the 36 years I have owned it!! Blue tinged gatefold 1st pressing cover is also EXCELLENT with only very light age wear. See pics.  Posters and Stickers are virtually MINT and have never been used. Inner sleeve (original Black poly-lined) is very good with a few creases and one very tiny 5mm tear near the top edge. It would be difficult to find a significantly better copy of the legendary DSOTM 'Solid Blue Label' UK first press LP!!

I am the first and only owner of this LP , bought new by myself within the first few days of its original release back in 1973!!

CONDITION

Vinyl: EXCELLENT

This LP has had only very limited play during the 36 years I have owned it. The vinyl retains it's original full gloss and lustre with just a light paper scuff mark and a few faint wispy hairlines on side one...side two is virtually unmarked and is in very near mint condition. Both sides play superbly throughout with only very minimal static barely evident in a couple of places and during the run-in grooves and start of the first track on side one.....nothing to seriously spoil your enjoyment of a truly magnificent audio experience! It would be extremely difficult to find a significantly better DSOTM A2/B2 1st 'Solid Blue Prism' original pressing!!

Solid Blue Prism Labels: MINT-

'Solid Blue Prism' label has NO unwanted writing, NO marks, NO stickers....only a very few faint spindle traces which are barely visible. It goes without saying that the labels have of course got the 'Gramophone Co' rim text, 'World Copyrights' text, and 'Made in Gt Britain' text round the bottom edge.

Original Inner Sleeve: VG+

Original thick black poly-lined die-cut inner has a few creases and one tiny 5mm tear on the top edge. Has original Silver print Patent Nos 1125555 & 1072844. Made in Great Britain.

Both Posters & Both Stickers: MINT-

The posters have never been hung on a wall...NO pinholes or blue tacks marks. The two stickers are both flat and unpeeled (see pics)

Gatefold Sleeve: EXCELLENT

Garrod & Lofthouse 'Dark Blue' unlaminated non-flipback gatefold with unsealed left hand edge. I'll take this opportunity to lay a myth to rest. The first pressings were NOT only issued in the famous 'DARK BLUE' sleeve with the left hand edge sealed with an internal fold-over. Being a Floyd fan from the very early 'Arnold Layne' days I bought every release as it came out and THIS original copy of DSOTHM was duly purchased during the FIRST few days of it's original March, 1973 release!! More to the point, the left hand edge was indeed sealed but with no fold-over. The one I have here is an example of the third type of this sleeve, an original FIRST ISSUE dark blue sleeve which has no fold-over and has never been sealed!! I can only assume that because of the anticipated demand G & L had to produce these sleeves on a number of different machines, or even sub-contract production, and so the different variations found their way to different parts of the UK. This copy again is a 100% GENUINE ORIGINAL 'SOLID BLUE TRIANGLE' PRESSING and is complete with the original posters printed on heavy duty semi-gloss paper and the two unpeeled stickers. The glue used on all the early stickers was permanent and this is clearly printed on the back of each sticker. Later the glue was changed to removable after complaints from the education sector who got fed up finding the stickers permanently attached to every available surface. The sleeve is in a solid excellent condition with only a few very minor wrinkles and tiny creases (nothing serious), a little rubbing on the lower seams near the open out edge and slight storage shelfwear on the front near the lower edge....On the inside of the gatefold sleeve it states 'Printed and Made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd.'. This is printed in Blue which only the very first pressings were (please see pictures).

You are bidding on an EXCELLENT CONDITION ORIGINAL UK 1973 Harvest/EMI UK 1st Pressing of this all time classic LP by Pink Floyd! It is the Original Thick & Chunky 1973 UK 1st PRESSING with A2//B2 1st press Matrix on the Solid Blue Prism Triangle Label with 'Gramophone Co. Ltd' and 'Made in Gt. Britain' centre label text and Original 1st Press Blue-Tinged Gatefold Sleeve, Black windowed poly-lined Inner & Two Posters & Two Stickers!!! It is important to note all these characteristics marking it as a true UK 1st pressing. First and perhaps most importantly is the SOLID BLUE TRIANGLE, 'Gramophone Co.' centre label text and A//2 B//2 matrix on the disc. However just as important in my point of view is the 1st press unlaminated gatefold sleeve which MUST have a matt Blue tinge to it. Then we get to the 1st press poly-lined windowed inner sleeve which must be die-cut and must have the 'patents' text and made in Great Britain' test printed in white. The two posters have a textured paper feel and NOT a shiny laminated feel.

This is one of the best exmples of this rare 1st press you will come across. The cool 1970's thick and chunky vinyl is in visually and aurally excellent condition. The all-important solid blue prism Centre Labels are in Mint- condition absolutely superb with NO Peeling, NO Scribbles and NO unwanted writing of any kind. There are only a few very faint spindle traces. The centre spindle holes and gramophone rims are also excellent near mint!!! The vinyl looks absolutely beautiful. It is very hard to find copies of this LP that have not been played to death, on the rare occasions that they do turn up they are full of nasty scratches and gouges. This one is NOT!!! It looks beautiful with NO nasty scratches!!! Side 1 is in EXCELLENT condition with only a couple of wispy hairlines and one non-feel-able paper scuff mark, plays absolutely superbly with only some very light static on the run in and start of the opening track which fades after a few short seconds. Side 2 is in virtually near MINT condition with only a couple of faint wispy hairlines which can be seen under a strong light, plays superbly all the way!! I have thus graded it as a solid EX just to be cautious (most would grade it straight EX+ Nr Mint). I am very pleased to state that this is a record that also plays as good as it looks!!! These 1st pressings were straight from the masters and nothing even gets close to them today. They play with a deep clear warm clarity and have to be heard to be believed!!! This example has NO jumps, NO sticks and NO pops!!! Absolutely beautiful!!! The thick quality pressed chunky 1970's vinyl looks and feels great (it is very heavy!). The Garrod & Lofthouse gatefold sleeve is the original 1st Press unlaminated issue with a matt blue tinge to it, it is not completely black (and usually glossy) like the later repressed sleeves. This is a true 1st press sleeve, with a beautiful blue hue  - and what's more, it is in EXCELLENT condition with only some light fading and a little wear on the front near the bottom edge !!!! It has NO Tears, No Split, NO Scribbles and NO unwanted writing of any kind!!!

Both the posters and stickers are superb!!! The stickers are flat and unpeeled, both the posters are in virtually mint condition too...never hung on any wall and no pin holes.

 Of course - this 1st Press LP would not be complete without its true original 'Black' 'Poly-lined windowed inner sleeve containing the correct 'Made In Great Britain' and 'Patent No's' White Text . The inner sleeve does have a few creases and one very tiny tear on the top edge BUT is still in at least VG+ condition.

Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon' is one of the most highly regarded albums of all time, a true classic that deals with the burdens of everyday life that drive people to insanity. The band first took this piece of music on the road in 1972 under the working title 'Eclipse - A Piece For Assorted Lunatics' .

On offer here, from my own collection, is an original UK (Made In Great Britain) very first pressing of 'DARK SIDE OF THE MOON' which was made famous by the 'Solid Blue Prism' label. Production of this label ceased almost immediately after its initial release when it was discovered that the text was difficult to read because of the solid blue colour and the record company changed the label to the blue outline triangle seen on all subsequent pressings.The solid blue prism labels are stunning on both sides of the album with very little spindle wear and there is no writing or marking. The vinyl itself is visually beautiful. There are no scratches, chips or deformities. There are no skips or jumps and the sound quality is truly AMAZING!!

This LP is seen by many as the best progressive rock record ever made and original 1st Press 'SOLID BLUE PRISM' copies in EXCELLENT condition are simply no longer available to buy, they are virtually all housed in serious collections and will probably not see the light of day again!!

The vinyl is stunning, the full shiny gloss is outstanding and looks beautiful, I can honestly say this has only been played very few times (at the absolute most 10 to 15 times) by myself from new!! The spindle itself is nice and tight when going onto the deck. Now THE PLAY !!!! Well what can I say it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, its that good!! The run ins and very first track near the start have the minor static/crackle that is common but after a few seconds this fades...Now and then you can here the very faintest of static in the distant background but this is the same as you get with a brand new lp, nothing out of the ordinary. I dont think many even mention it but I shall; There are NO ticks, NO sticks, NO Jumps at all, so a truly stunning copy with the earliest A-2 / B-2 Matrix and the Gramophone co. rim text that plays and looks superb, what more can you ask for ??...!!! Anyway, a very rare copy of this epic record and in absolutely superb condition. The audio quality is outstanding!!

MINT: The record displays barely any signs of use, if any, with no marks or deterioration in sound quality. Extra items and cover are near perfect.

EXCELLENT: Shows only minor signs of being played with very little lessening in sound quality. The Cover and extras will have some light wear and or creasing

VERY GOOD: Has been played many times but has no major deterioration in sound quality, despite some noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratches. Cover and extras will have normal wear and tear but no major defects

GOOD: Has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and any extras may suffer from folding, scuffing, split spine, discoloration etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable and has considerable surface noise and may even jump. Cover and contents will be torn stained and/or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly. Covers badly damaged or partly missing

When posted the records are removed from the cover, if possible, and placed in a PVC outer protective sleeve to prevent sleeve splits in the post. I use brand new mailers, either the envelope style with thick stiffeners to prevent any sleeve bends in transit, or the "cruciform" style that wrap around the LP. I aim to dispatch all items within 48 hours of receiving payment. It is recommended that you choose the insurance option for higher value items.
