I had 5 brick and mortar stores in Portland, OR, Boise, ID, Fairbanks, AK, and 2 stores in Anchorage, AK. I operated under the name Nickelodeon Records & Tapes from 1973 to 1978, hence the eBay name Original 1976 Nickelodeon Records.

.Referring to The Piper At The Gates of Dawn,1,001 ALBUMS TO HEAR BEFORE YOU DIE notes that "As the house band at the UFO Club in the mid-1960's Pink Floyd launched a psychedelic revolution in London rivaling that which The Grateful Dead created in San Francisco. Despite the deceiving moniker--stolen from bluesmen Pink Anderson and Floyd Council--Pink Floyd were not a group of shabby hippies expanding on black music, but a band of fashionably dressed architecture and art students searching for their own sound. The Piper At The Gates of Dawn achieved that goal with spellbinding results.

   The album's success stemmed from how well the band balanced the sonic exploration of their live show with the songcraft behind early hits "Arnold Layne" and "See Emily Play". Nobody wrote better psychedelic singles than Syd Barrett...However, the songwriter was clearly fighting for control of the music, as well as his mind, as bassist Roger Waters, pianist Richard Wright and drummer Nick Mason pushed for further space travel. The album's centerpiece is the 10-minute rocket ride "Interstellar Overdrive," which features the best non-David Gilmour guitar work of the band's career.

  The group were soon to lose Barrett to a mental breakdown and gain Gilmour's epic guitar leads. Waters became the creative force and fueled a fascination with conceptual song cycles. Pink Floyd would soon reach greater heights, notably on Dark Side Of The Moon, but with The Piper...they managed to capture the essence of 1960s psychedelia perfectly.
