The audio on this 1U/1U first pressing, as detailed below, is of an immaculate standard for the vast majority and it comes complete with a pristine fully textured cover which looks almost as new.

Visual grading

This vinyl has been so well preserved down the years it is absolutely stunning visually as is the audio!  It has only been lightly played as there is very little spindle wear and it still retains a fantastic glossy like surface that has no obvious hairlines.  There are certainly no marks or scratches.  There is one mega tiny pressing fault on S1 but aside from that it looks as new.  It is absolutely pristine, the likes of which I have never seen on a first pressing.  The labels are run out grooves are also supremely clean.  This vinyl definitely has the wow factor!

Play grading  

'One Of These Days' plays with incredible power and clarity and there is only a minimal amount of static on the intro.  As any Floyd aficionado knows this is a rarity in itself as it is often beset with crackle.  You can hear the wind blowing ! perfectly and there are no clicks or pops anywhere, as I say the clarity is first class.  This is quite possible the 'cleanest' version of this track I have ever heard on a genuine 1U/1U first pressing.  The depth and power of the percussion and bass and indeed the separation of all the instruments is breathtaking and even the quiet 'wind' fade out has no 'background'.  A stunning start to S1.  'A Pillow Of Winds' plays with Mint quality bar the final few seconds.  I rarely use this grade but I am confident in my system and appreciate perfection when I hear it.  There is a pressing fault at the end and a mega small 'bump' in the vinyl can be seen which results in a dull sound for about eight revolutions.  This is on the fade out and can't even be classified as a click really as it is just so quiet.  I am happy to confirm that 'Fearless' does play as Mint from start to finish.  The audio is sublime and I have never heard such immaculate quality on any pressing let alone a 1U/1U one!  I am just blown away by the stunning clarity on offer, there is no static or crackle, no clicks, pops and not even a dust tick!  'San Tropez' and 'Seamus' impress to exactly the same standard and provide a fitting end to what is a near perfect S1, the quality is astounding.

Some interference on the first few grooves of any vinyl is generally accepted and as the 'Echoes' intro is so quiet you expect some 'background'.  There is a little here but it is not intrusive, a little static and a handful of light clicks but aside from that it plays very cleanly indeed.  From the very first guitar note the audio is extraordinary and this is further exemplified when the vocal begins.  I cannot stress enough how good it sounds!  Quite simply this classic then plays as new, the clarity and strength of the audio is immense and even the 'whale section' plays beautifully.  Just the odd light dust tick yes but boy did I enjoy listening to this!  You would to travel a long way to hear an 'Echoes' as clear and well defined as this one.  I have played it twice now and it just keeps better and better.  The build up to the final section is incredible and this guitar section then plays with none of the distortion that you so often find.  The instrumental section and vocal that follows then plays with stunning precision yet again and it is no exaggeration to say the majority of this classic plays as Mint.  A minimal amount of background and I am confident in saying this is the most impressive version of this track I have heard and I have listened to many 1U/1U pressings!  The extended end section is also immaculate in its 'high end' end quality, the calibre of which could not be improved upon and even the fade out has no 'background' of any kind.  Absolutely stunning, as simple as that!

In summary this is a final upgrade, archive copy for certain.  I would say it is rare to find a 1U/1U first press to play with audio as impressive as this.  A little interference at the end of one track on S1 and on the 'Echoes' intro but aside from that the audio is of an impeccable standard and deserves its high grading and I can safely say I heard things on this vinyl that I have not heard before.  That may say a little over dramatic but believe me I am telling the truth!  The clarity is such that it 'opens up' the whole record and every note and nuance is so well defined.  A superb gatefold also is the icing on the cake!

Gatefold

This is without doubt the most stunning fully textured G&L gatefold I have ever seen.  It is practically Mint and it is difficult to find fault with it.  The edges are in supreme condition with no shelf wear and the spine is near perfect with only one very small area of rubbing at the top.  The other corners are in great shape with next to no wear and the opening edge is also in perfect condition.  The front and back covers are so clean they look 'shop fresh' with no marking at all and the inside of the gatefold is just immaculate.  Due to its very 'white' nature these are so often found in poor condition but not here!  It is so clean and I cannot find any marks whatsoever.  Stunning!

Inner sleeve

This includes the original EMI/Harvest inner sleeve which has no splits or tears just some light creasing.

The labels

The yellow/green Harvest label are in superb shape with no marking/writing and minimal spindle wear only.
