Meddle 1U/1U

This is a very early first pressing.  Based on the GRAMOPHLTD system S1 has been produced with the 12th stamper and S2 with the 7th so you can just how early it is.  Very few are found with a single stamper as per S2.

The audio plays to an excellent standard overall and includes the fully textured cover.

The audio on S2 is Ex+ (many sections Near Mint / 15 second section near the beginning VG+)

Visual grading

This record has been very well looked after.  There are only a very small number of very faint sleeve removal hairlines and no scratches or marks at all.  Only lightly played there is a little spindle on S1 and only a couple of lines on S2.  The vinyl is very clean indeed and maintains a healthy glossy sheen.  A superb example of this mega early first pressing.

Play grading  

There is some light crackle on the 'One Of These Days' intro and a couple of clicks a little further in but the remainder of the track plays with great power and depth.  The louder section plays extremely well, just some crackle again on the closing section.  The remaining tracks on this side impress with exceptional clarity.  A small number of non-intrusive dust ticks only the quality on these four tracks is 'high end' without doubt.  A little more static on the final track 'Seamus' and that is the only 'background' worthy of note really.

The classic 'Echoes' begins with very little static which is a rarity.  Some light clicks about 30 seconds in but from there on the audio plays very clearly with only very light static here and there.  The section leading up to the first vocal section plays superbly with no 'background' and this stunning quality continues.  The depth and power of the music is sublime it really is a sublime listen.  There is no muddiness or distortion on the sound, I suspect this side has not been played very much at all.  The long instrumental section that follows plays with great definition and no interference of any kind.  A very strong bass sound also.  The 'whale section' is so clear and there is very little static, a rarity for this section.  The following build up to the final section is stunning and plays with supreme clarity and hardly any of the distortion that you so often hear on the guitar section.  The remainder does not disappoint either and the quiet end section has no 'background' at all.  A stunning end to an all time classic.

Gatefold

The fully textured G&L gatefold does have some shelf wear but overall is very clean for its age.  The top edges have some rubbing and there is a little more on the bottom edges.  The spine sadly isn't legible any more and the rub marks may even have been coloured in at some stage although I'm not certain of that.  The opening edge is very clean and has very little handling wear.  The front cover is in great shape and has only one faint scratch mark and the back cover has no marking at all.  The textured inside is also very clean save for a small number of age related spots around the top of the inner spine, quite faint though.  It has retained its 'whiteness' very well.

Inner sleeve

The original poly-lined EMI/Harvest inner sleeve has no splits or tears, just some age related marking around the edges.

The labels

The yellow/green Harvest labels are in superb shape with no writing or marking and very little spindle wear.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been professionally cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
