Visual grading
Side One is immaculate and under a bright light I can't detect any hairlines and there are definitely no scratches. It is just pristine looking and impossible to find better. Side Two has a small mark on 'A Spanish Piece' but it does not affect the sound quality in any way. There are also a few fine hairlines below it but again they have no bearing on the audio. Overall this is a stunning looking (and sounding!) vinyl and especially so for a 1G/1G pressing. There is also hardly any spindle wear which confirms that this record has only been lightly played.
Play grading
This version of 'Cirrus Minor' has to be one of the best I have ever heard. For such a quiet track it plays beautifully and there are only the lightest of dust ticks, there is no crackle and no clicks/pops at all. For a 45 year old vinyl to play this well is very well and even 'The Nile Song' has less distortion than usual and plays with excellent clarity. There are a few very light clicks at the beginning of 'Crying Song' but the remainder plays extremely well with only light intermittent static, not intrusive though. 'Up The Khyber' can be graded as Mint the audio quality is simply superb. What can I say about 'Green Is The Colour'? I have just never heard a better rendition than this and to think this is a 1G/1G pressing. In all honesty it plays as new which for one of the quietest tracks Floyd have ever recorded is such an incredible rarity. There is just no interference whatsoever. 'Cymbaline' practically plays to the same standard and again has stunning clarity with only a handful of the lightest dust ticks you could hear. Two of my favourite Floyd tracks with audio as near to perfect as is possible - wow! 'Party Sequence' ends the side with the same quality. Absolutely stunning.
'Main Theme' plays with near perfect audio with just one click in the middle. Again the clarity and resonance of the audio is breathtaking - it does not get better than this! 'Ibiza Bar' has hardly any distortion and plays with immense quality. 'More Blues' has excellent audio although does have a few very light clicks. In saying that the music still plays very clearly and the interference is hardly intrusive. 'Quicksilver' for the majority plays in sublime fashion with some light dust ticks here and there. However, for such a quiet track again the audio is of an excellent standard. The final two tracks have Near Mint audio with just a hint of distortion on 'Dramatic Theme' but it remains a high quality listen.
In summary this is without doubt one of the best 1G/1G pressings I have heard. The majority of it plays as Near Mint and any interference is very much low key and in the background.
Laminated cover
The laminated G & L flipback cover is very clean and has been very well maintained over the last 45 years. I believe this 1G/1G pressing was produced in 1972 as this cover only has two flipbacks on the top and bottom spines. The edges and thin pinched spine are in great condition and only the two bottom corners have minimal wear. The laminate on the front cover has only a few very small creases around the edges. The green tinted back cover is very clean and the flipbacks have very little marking which is often so prevalent with them. The opening edge also has very little handling wear.
Labels
The labels are in excellent condition with no writing or marking and only absolute minimal spindle wear but not overly so. Around the bottom of the label it states "Made in GT Britain".
Around the top edge - "The Gramophone Co., Ltd. All rights of the manufacturer and of the owner of the recorded work reserved. Unauthorised public performance, broadcasting, and copying of this record prohibited".
Inner sleeve
This comes with a 'Plastic Bags Can Be Dangerous' inner sleeve. It is in excellent condition with no splits or tear and only very minor creasing.
