Pink Floyd : Obscured By Clouds A1/B1 1st Press
This genuine first press plays to a 'high end' standard and S2 in particular is stunning. There are six consecutive clicks on 'Wot's ... Uh The Deal' on S1 but this is the only interference across the entire album. The clarity and depth of the audio is so impressive and is one of the finest examples of this album that I have listened to in a long time. The vinyl has been very well preserved down the years and hardly played in my opinion.
The textured cover is also in superb shape and has retained it shape and strength incredibly well. It has no obvious wear and the original Harvest inner is also in excellent condition.

Visual grading
The vinyl is visually stunning and still has a lovely glossy sheen with no marks or scuffs. It has hardly been played judging by the audio and the absolute minimal spindle wear and there is only one tiny scratch on S1 about 2/3 mms long! There is only one small hairline on S1 that is a little obvious but it is still faint. S2 is stunning and has no marking at all. The run out grooves are very clean and the yellow/green Harvest labels are also near perfect.
Play grading
The quiet intro on the title track 'Obscured By Clouds' plays with wonderful clarity which is a rarity as the opening grooves on this album often play with a fair amount of static/crackle. I detected only a couple of minor dust ticks here. It proceeds in the same way with a clarity and depth that is very impressive indeed. There are no clicks or pops and the fade also plays to perfection. A Mint- start for sure.
'When You're In' is stunning from the first note and aside from one light click one minute in there are no negatives. This click is very dull sounding and quiet so you might even miss it. There is no other 'background' and the long fade does not have even a single dust tick. Near Mint overall.
'Burning Bridges' is 'as new' from start to finish with no interference of any kind. Again the clarity and warmth of the audio pays testament to how well this vinyl has been preserved and how infrequently it has been played. Mint-
'The Gold It's In The ...' keeps up the standard with superb audio throughout. A more powerful track and yet there is no distortion and Gilmour's solo is a prime example of that. Great depth here also. Mint-
The acoustic intro on 'Wot's ... Uh The Deal' plays with stunning precision and the first vocal is of the same quality. It continues in much the same way although there are six clicks as you approach the middle section. This is caused by a tiny scratch - annoying yes but it only lasts for a few seconds and the remainder is faultless. I will grade this as Mint- but with a brief G section.
'Mudmen' plays with great clarity and this is of course a very quiet track. The long intro has only a handful of barely audible dust ticks and a couple of mega light ticks and Gilmour's solo then plays with stunning power and no distortion - just one tick right at the end. From then onwards there is no interference and for a final track the audio is very 'clean' indeed. Each note is so sharp and precise but I grade as Near Mint just to be safe :-)

The slow build up on 'Childhood's End' plays with exceptional clarity when you consider how quiet it is. With only a couple of light static ticks the audio is so strong and as the acoustic guitar comes in the playback is flawless. The vocal sections are 'as new' and to the end this track plays with incredible clarity and depth. I'd say Near Mint for the intro and Mint- for the remainder.
'Free Four' again plays with a sonic quality that is stunning from the outset. From start to finish I heard only one very light tick and this really is audio of the highest calibre. Plays like it has never been played before! Mint-
The quiet piano intro on 'Stay' is as close to perfect as is possible and it continues to play with a clarity that is so impressive for a relatively quiet track. The audio is so crisp and clean and there are only a couple of mega light ticks. This is a stunning version and Mint- is very much deserved.
'Absolutely Curtains' has another very quiet build up and yet the clarity is again...amazing! The more I play it the more I cannot believe what I am hearing. The A1/B1 first pressings are not so easy to find these days and to find one with sonic quality as good as this is a genuine rarity. It continues to play with sublime quality and I detected only 3/4 very light ticks, no clicks or pops and only a couple of seconds of barely audible static. The majority is Mint but overall I will say Near Mint just to totally 'complete' in my grading.
In summary this first press plays to a superb standard with barely any intrusion. In fact the only obvious interference is that brief passage on S1 but the remainder of the album is 'high end' for sure. The clarity and definition of the audio is so good and it is clear this vinyl has hardly been played. A stunning album.
The Cover & Inner Sleeve
The textured cover with the 'rounded' corners is in superb condition with only very minimal shelf wear. The edges have only a little 'rubbing' and the thin pinched spine is super clean and remains 100% legible. There is hardly any 'corner' wear and the opening edge is near perfect with no real handling wear also. The front cover is totally unmarked and has just one very minor crease bottom left and the back cover is just as impressive. A superb example overall and rarely found in this condition as it is quite a delicate cover.
The original Harvest inner is in excellent condition but is no longer poly-lined. There are no side splits or tears, only minimal creasing and just a little age related fading around the edges.
Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable // B & W 684 Speakers
