Pink Floyd : The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn 1/1 Early Stereo Pressing
This early pressing is known as the fifth stereo pressing and is a FINAL UPGRADE version for certain. Only played 2/3 times at most the clarity and depth of the audio is stunning and the visual quality of the vinyl could not be any more impressive. You would be forgiven for thinking it was purchased from the record shop only yesterday and that is no exaggeration! It may not be the earliest black/silver Columbia version (two EMI logos on the labels) but you will not find a better version!
The cover is also in superb condition with no obvious wear and the original inner is also extremely clean. A superb album in every way!
Royal Mail shipping costs have massively increased recently and these are shown below. Please could you wait before making payment so I can calculate the exact cost.

Play grading
With a very quiet run in on the lead grooves the intro on 'Astronomy Domine' plays with stunning clarity with no interference of any kind. As the vocal begins the quality does not diminish and the quieter mid section is so clear! The long instrumental that follows is absolutely breathtaking! Rarely have I heard such audio definition and it plays in the same precise manner to the final note. I cannot overstate how 'clean' the audio is here and it is obvious this vinyl has hardly ever been played. Each note plays with incredible clarity and I am more than happy to grade this as Mint- it cannot be faulted.
'Lucifer Sam' has no interference either - no clicks or pops and no underlying static. This stereo pressing often has a fair amount of distortion on the vocal but when you find one that has been as well preserved as this it is kept to an absolute minimum and some would argue it isn't even there! In essence this is just the way it was produced and recorded and is still deserving of a Mint- grade.
'Matilda Mother' plays beautifully from start to finish with no intrusion. The clarity is again so impressive and the long fade out also has no 'background'. Mint-
The intro on 'Flaming' is nigh on perfect with just one very light tick and from then on plays as per the previous tracks. Superb clarity and not one iota of interference! Perhaps just a mild hint of vocal distortion but I repeat you expect that. I think Near Mint is an honest assessment.
You would not believe how 'clean' the intro on 'Pow R. Toc H.' is! It may well be the finest I have heard on this early stereo pressing, the depth and quality of the audio is second to none. I am pleased to say it continues to play with sublime quality and even the louder mid section plays with great clarity. The quieter passage near the end and the final crescendo section play 'as new' with no 'background' and...you know the grade :-)
'Take Up Thy Stethoscope And Walk' ends the side with 'high end' audio once more. A regular audio for distortion this version plays with stunning clarity and power all the way through. Any distortion is non-intrusive and 100% non-intrusive. I will grade as Near Mint but wow what a side! It is as close to perfect 'as new' audio that you will find.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From the outset the classic 'Interstellar Overdrive' plays with a sonic quality and power that you so rarely find. It is a stunning version and there is quite simply nothing to fault. Every section plays with sublime quality including all the quieter ones (not very many!) and again each note can be heard so succinctly. About 3/4 barely audible dust ticks but honestly you could not wish to find a more 'complete' version. The classic end section is fantastic! Immense power and depth, what a version! Mint- in every way.
The percussive intro on 'The Gnome' has only a couple of barely audible ticks that you would not hear if you're sat eight foot away! Thereafter it plays with wonderful clarity and depth and the 'Look at the sky...' mid section is a prime example of that. I have never heard it plays with such quality and to the end the end this little gem plays with Mint- quality audio.
'Chapter 24' impresses with no intrusion, not one dust tick in fact. Vocal distortion? More a vocal 'affect' I would say i.e. it was recorded in this way. Another Mint- track.
The intro on 'The Scarecrow' is 'as new' and continues in the same way as Barrett's vocal begins. Again you just need to sit back and just listen to each note, the clarity is stunning. The end section where the acoustic guitar and bass come in is as 'clean' as I have ever heard. Mint-
'Bike' ends the album with great quality and only a minimal amount of inner groove distortion. It was probably even there when first pressed so perhaps should not be downgraded because of it. The quiet section near the end has no interference and then plays with incredible quality to the very end. Even the 'ducks' are Mint! I will grade this as Near Mint though just to be cautious.
In summary this early pressing is a real time warp classic, a FINAL UPGRADE as it were. It plays with such imperious quality and the clarity on both sides is so impressive. There is no interference at all, not one click or pop and not static or crackle either. Not only that but there is barely any sound in the dead wax between tracks and the vinyl is visually stunning also. An immaculate album in every way.
Visual grading
You will not find a better one and to say this is 'clean' is an understatement! It has a perfect jet-black glossy sheen and it basically looks 'as new'. It is so obvious this has hardly ever been played and there are no marks or scratches to be seen. It is one beautiful vinyl! After much searching I could only find a very small number of mega faint inconsequential sleeve removal hairlines. There are only a couple of tiny faint spindle traces on the S1 label but nothing on the S2 label. The run out grooves are also super clean with no marking.
The Cover
The laminated cover is in lovely condition with no obvious shelf wear. The edges are as close to perfect as could be, I could only just about see one very faint 'rub' on the bottom edge. The spine is unmarked and the opening edge has no handling wear at all. The corners are also super clean and the laminated front cover has no marking or damage and only a small number of insignificant faint creases around the edges. The 'white' back cover is extremely clean with no marking as such, just a minimal amount of light ringwear. A stunning example for sure.
The Inner Sleeve
The plain white die-cut inner has just one very small side split and remains very clean with only a couple of minor 'spots' and barely any creasing. It has the patent number and 'Made in Great Britain' printed on one side.
The Labels
The two EMI box labels are in perfect condition with only a couple of tiny spindle traces on the S1 label. Stunning!
