Description

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn SCX 6157
This is a stunning early press of this classic LP and is in Near Mint condition.  There are barely any spindle lines and it is obvious this vinyl has been hardly played.  The audio is of a fantastic standard.
What makes this LP even rarer are the matrix numbers.  On pinkfloydarchives.com they either end 1 1 or 2 2 on each side.  This particular one has matrix numbers of 3419-1 and 3420-2, a combination of the two.
This pressing has the black Columbia label with the white Columbia logo and two small EMI logos on each label.  Whilst the front cover is still laminated the back cover does not have the flipbacks.

Visual grading
In a word, absolutely stunning - ok that's two words!  I have never seen a cleaner early pressing than this.  It is in pristine condition and still has that beautiful glossy sheen.  There are no hairlines, scratches or marks and only two tiny spindle lines on Side One and not even one on Side Two!  This really is a remarkable vinyl and I am not exaggerating when I say I have not seen a better one of this age.  It is such a rarity to find an early pressing in this amazing condition when you consider how much they were played in the late 60s/early 70s.  It also lies perfectly flat on the turntable.
Play grading
'Astronomy Domine' is absolutely stunning and plays with no interference.  With no lead in static you know the audio is going to play with high end quality.  The remainder of the side plays in a similar fashion and the lack of interference is incredible and so rare on an LP nearing 50 years of age.  With complete silence between the tracks it would be difficult to find a better early pressing than this.  There is a little distortion here and there but I only mention that to be complete in my grading.  This is the way it was recorded and is not a fault.  There are no clicks, pops or jumps on this side.  I am quite simply astounded by the audio here!
Again there is no lead in static and 'Interstellar Overdrive' then plays superbly well, yes with a little distortion but no unwanted interference.  The clarity and depth again is simply first class.  'The Gnome' plays as new apart from one dull click towards the end.  The remainder of the side, and I don't mean to labour the point, plays with such stunning high quality and NO interference whatsoever.  'Bike' often plays with a certain amount of distortion but not here!
 In summary I would say this is the best early stereo pressing of 'Piper' I have heard.  The clarity and separation and sonic quality of every track is just breathtaking and when you consider the age of the vinyl it is just so rare to find one in this condition.  For it to play without any crackle is practically unheard of. 
Cover
  The glossy G & L non-flipback cover is in fabulous condition with barely any shelf wear.  The edges and thin pinched spine are in superb shape and only the bottom opening edge has a very small amount of creasing.  The white back cover remains in great condition also and has no marks.  The opening edge has no handling wear, further proof if it were needed, that the vinyl has hardly been played.
Labels
  The black Columbia labels with silver text are in Mint condition with no marking at all and almost no spindle wear as already stated.
The text around the labels state "EMI Records, Ltd. All rights of the manufacturer and of the owner of the recorded work reserved. Unauthorised public performance, broadcasting, and copying of this record prohibited. Made in GT Britain" 
Inner sleeve
This was issued with a plain white die-cut inner sleeve with Patent No 1,125,55 and Made in Great Britain printed on it.  It has no tears, only light creasing.   Play tested on my Technics SL-J110R turntable system
