PINK FLOYD SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS STEREO First Pressing

You are viewing my rarely seen STEREO vinyl album recorded on the (blue) COLUMBIA label in 1968 by PINK FLOYD entitled, 'SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS'.

"A Saucerful of Secrets is the second studio album by the English rock group Pink Floyd. It was recorded at EMI's Abbey Road Studios on various dates from August 1967 to April 1968.  It is both the last Pink Floyd album on which Syd Barrett would appear and the only studio album in which all five band members contributed.  The title track was David Gilmour's first professional songwriting credit. His name is incorrectly spelled "Gilmore", an error that would persist on all pressings until finally being corrected with the 1994 remastered version."

The album contains the following tracks:

Side One:

  • Let There Be More Light
  • Remember A Day
  • Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun
  • Corporal Clegg.

Side Two:

  • A Saucerful Of Secrets
  • See-Saw
  • Jugband Blues.

This album itself was made in Great Britain and has the reference number of SX 62583. It has the matrix number of XAX 3633-1 (side one) and XAX 3634-1 (side two), indicating this is a first pressing recording.

I don't really understand the 'Mother Stampers' numbers, however on side one (given that the matrix numbers are at 6 o'clock), at the 3 o'clock position is the letter 'L', in the run off groove at the 12 o'clock position is etched the name 'PETER MORRISON'.  On side two, at the 9 o'clock position is the figure '1', below that number is the number 2 and at the 3 o'clock position is the letter 'H'.

The record itself is in fair condition.  There are a number of surface marks to both sides, most of which are light but there are several that you can feel.  This does produce some 'crackle' and a few 'pops' and 'clicks' which are especially noticeable on quieter parts of the recording.  I feel that it does not detract from the music and there are no sticks or jumps.  I critically grade this album as 'FAIR'.

The album cover is the original front laminated 'flipback' version made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd.  As the photograph shows, there is some considerable wear to the edges and corners, there is a a small split to the top of the cover and a number of creases to the front cover and spine (all visible in the photographs).  The reverse has some age discolouration.  I would say this is a well used example and would again critically grade it as 'FAIR'.

In short, this very rare album and cover both show signs of some considerable use.  Having said that, it does play well and it does not stick or jump.  This is a rarely seen album that was only produced in low numbers.

This album will be posted in a good quality record mailer.
