Description
This is a collectible copy of the now RARE Mono recording of Pink Floyd's 2nd studio album, A Saucerful of Secrets catalogue number SX 6258
It is a nice looking, and even better sounding, genuine original UK 1st pressing from 1968! Of special value to the collector is the mis-spelling of David Gilmour's name as Gilmore on both labels and sleeve!!
The record has been professionally stored, so although it is 48 years old, the vinyl is still glossy and plays well. On my Michell equipment it plays without interruption on both sides despite paper scuffs and a couple of surface scratches, it produces a lovely mono sound - just a few seconds of static before the 1st track starts on side 2.
The matrices in the run out wax are XAX3633 - 1 and XAX3634-1 - the very earliest!
The labels have a little spindlewear but are still nice. They are the beautiful Columbia bright blue on black, with silver lettering
These very first labels have the text 'Sold in UK subject to resale price conditions' and 'Made in Gt Britain.'
The Garrod & Lofthouse cover is still intact, the laminated flip-back front still shiny.
On the top right rear is 'File under POPULAR: Pop Groups'
The sleeve design and photos are by HIPGNOSIS
The date code on the rear of the cover is 6807 TPS
Notes:
The album was recorded before and after Syd Barrett's departure from the group. Owing to Barrett's behaviour becoming increasingly unpredictable, David Gilmour was recruited in January 1968. As a result, A Saucerful of Secrets became the only non-compilation Pink Floyd album on which all five band members appeared, the first for Gilmour, with him appearing on five songs ("Let There Be More Light", "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun", "Corporal Clegg", "A Saucerful of Secrets" and "See-Saw"), and the last for Barrett, with him on three ("Remember a Day", "Jugband Blues" and "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun"). "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" was the only song all five members appeared on together. Drummer Nick Mason declared A Saucerful of Secrets his favourite Pink Floyd album.
