I have on offer my own original rare mono first pressing of A Saucerful Of Secrets. I am not a dealer - I bought this record brand new at the time of release. It has never been lent out or played at parties. At the time, an LP cost me almost one day's wages, so I looked after my records extremely well. After a few years I bought the re-release in A Nice Pair and this actual album has not been played for about 40 years - until today. It plays extremely well. Like all records from the 1960's, there is a little background noise and the occasional slight click. But the depth of sound from original vinyl is unmistakeable and a little stylus sound simply adds to the originality and charm of the experience of listening to the great music of A Saucerful Of Secrets.

This was the last Pink Floyd album that featured the legendary Syd Barrett and he appears on two or three of these tracks. There is, of course, his own composition: 'Jugband Blues'. I am now going to quote from the excellent book 'Saucerful of Secrets' by Nicholas Schaffner: "Syd is highlighted on slide guitar in Rick's nostalgic childhood reverie 'Remember A Day' (an out-take from Piper) and appears to get in a few manic licks on Roger's 'Corporal Clegg'." Not a lot of people may know that. Also, the stereo mix is decidedly different to this original mono mix, as was normal back in the 1960's when most people didn't have hi-fi.

This album was originally played very carefully on my parent's radiogram and fastidiously looked after by me. It has been stored upright and housed in a polythene sleeve. Yes, I did play the record dozens of times back in the 1960's but always most carefully. Mint copies of this album are non existent. You are also most unlikely to find another excellent copy like this, direct from it's original owner, offered for such a reasonable sum. By 1968, record buyers were asked "mono or stereo?" when buying albums. Even though most buyers didn't have a stereo, they would generally buy the stereo version in anticipation of buying a stereo player in the future. Most copies of this album are, naturally, in stereo. That makes this excellent, rare, mono mix quite valuable.

There is hardly a mark on the sleeve other than the faint circular impression of the record. The front does have a few very light creases, making the sleeve look perhaps one week old. The reverse side is also in excellent condition with barely noticeable wear and no writing or marks. As I said, this has been kept in a polythene sleeve, like all my albums.

The disc itself also looks almost new. Side 1 has two slight marks. Side 2 has one light mark. These take nothing away from the disc and apart from these (that you really have to look for) the heavy vinyl still bears its original lustre and brightness. Very rare for a record that is 45 years old this year. The labels are also clean, clear of writing, marks or stickers or labels, but do bear very slight usage clues around the hole when I placed the album on the turntable. At the time, 'Saucerful' did not get particularly good reviews and did not sell in huge quantities. That is why excellent copies such as this are hardly ever to be found.

Anything better than this is probably unobtainable for under £500. I will double pack this album in a double strength cardboard box and send it by recorded delivery.
