THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON A5/B5 (early press with posters and stickers)
This early pressing of this iconic LP plays extremely well for its age as detailed below. I believe the A5/B5 pressings were only produced in limited numbers as pinkfloydarchives.com only has two on them on their matrix listing.
SHVL 804 // A-5 / B-5 // GTT 5 & RDR G Visual grading
Under a bright light I can detect only 3/4 hairlines of any note but they do not have any affect on the audio. For such an early pressing the vinyl is in excellent condition and I would say only lightly played as there is very little spindle wear.
Play grading
I have listened to this rare LP in its entirety and the audio is of a very high standard. There is only very light static on the heartbeat intro to 'Speak To Me' and then plays with no interference at all. 'Breathe' plays to the same standard with stunning clarity. There are four dull pops towards the end of 'On The Run' due to a tiny mark on the vinyl that could perhaps be removed with a professional clean. There is very light static on the end section also. 'Time' has wonderful audio with just the merest hint of static, the clarity and depth again here is superb. So rare to find so little interference. 'Breathe Reprise' has very clear audio with barely any static. The intro to 'Great Gig...' has a little faint static but still plays very clearly. The 'vocals' then play loudly and with great depth and the quiet ending plays with excellent quality and only the lightest of static.
'Money' on Side Two plays with excellent resonance with just touch of static here and there. It remains a fantastic listen and plays very loudly on the upper level with no distortion. There is slightly louder static on the intro to Us And Them' but it does decrease and then plays with excellent audio. 'Any Colour You Like' plays with sheer quality and with the minimum of static, a wonderful listen. 'Brain Damage' has exceptionally clear audio and is one of the best versions I have heard. As is common with 'Eclipse' it does play with a little distortion but here is only minimal and is a great ending to this classic LP.
Gatefold cover
The Garrod and Lofthouse gatefold is in excellent condition for its age and only has a little shelf wear. The edges are very clean and it is only the corners that have a little more rubbing. The spine remains in excellent condition as does the opening edge which has hardly any handling wear. There is the odd small crease and minor scratch type mark but overall it has retained its shape and colour very well. The inside of the gatefold is in great condition with only a couple of creases.
Posters and Stickers
The two posters are in wonderful condition for their age and have no rips or tears. One of the stickers has some creasing and the other is more or less perfect. They both have "FasPrint Permanent" and "Crack Back Patented" printed on the paper.
Inner sleeve
This issue has the correct DRG inner sleeve included with the patent number and Made In Great Britain on it. It is in excellent condition with no splits or tears.
Labels
They are both in superb condition with only absolute minimal spindle wear.
