Pink Floyd : The Dark Side Of The Moon A9/B8 Early Press w/Posters & Stickers
This early pressing plays with fantastic audio and the only interference is three clicks at the end of S1 due to the smallest of scratches imaginable! Apart from that S1 plays with impeccable quality and S2 is stunning from start to finish. The clarity, depth and warmth of the audio on both sides is so impressive but on S2 it is taken to another level. There is no interference on S2 at all. The vinyl is also in lovely condition and has hardly ever been played based on the audio and the minimal spindle wear.
The iconic cover is in superb condition with very little wear and the posters and stickers are 'as new' with no marking or creasing etc. The original inner is very clean with only a couple of minor marks.
SHVL 804 // A-9 / B-8 // RMO 3 / RRO 1 // HTM etched on both run out grooves
The audio on S1 is Mint(-) (T1 & T6 Near Mint although T6 G- for three seconds at the end)
The audio on S2 is Mint(-)
The gatefold is Ex+
The posters and stickers are Mint
The labels are Mint-
The inner is Ex+
Visual grading
The vinyl is in superb condition and still has a lovely glossy sheen and has clearly hardly ever been played. There are only a couple of spindle traces on S1 and only 3/4 on S2. The only negative is one mega tiny scratch at the end of S1 (about 2mms) but apart from that it is visually so impressive. You don't know the scratch is there unless you're looking for it! There are only a small number of very faint sleeve removal hairlines and the run out grooves are also pristine as are the labels.
Play grading
The very quiet 'heartbeat' intro on 'Speak To Me' plays so clearly with barely any static and the actual 'heartbeat' reverberates so powerfully. Listen very carefully if you win this album you will know what I mean! This is symptomatic with all HTM pressings which generally play with a greater depth and power. Anyway, I digress. It continues to play with stunning clarity and throughout this entire intro I only detected a couple of minor static ticks. A superb Near Mint start to this classic album.
The segue into 'Breathe' is perfect and the opening instrumental then plays with genuine precision and no 'background'. The first verse is practically 'as new' with only one barely audible static sound and the second verse does indeed play perfectly. Mint-
'On The Run' start so well with only a couple of mega light ticks (you could easily miss them they are so quiet!) and from that point on it plays with a sonic quality that you only get from a hardly played vinyl. The depth and warmth of the audio is outstanding and there is no 'background' at all. The power of the 'crash' is so strong and clear and the 'running man' section also plays with wonderful clarity. This instrumental is worthy of a Mint- grade for sure.
The segue into 'Time' is again flawless and the 'clocks' then chime with stunning power. The long intro has no interference, just 3/4 light dust ticks, and the first verse/chorus are breathtaking! Gilmour's iconic solo then plays 'as new' with no distortion on the top end. The final vocal section has no interference and you would not be disappointed if you had just bought this 'new' the playback is that impressive. It's not often this track plays as Mint- but it certainly does here!
'Breathe Reprise' again pays testament to how well this vinyl has been looked after and plays with stunning clarity from the first note to the last. Mint
The gentle piano intro on 'The Great Gig In The Sky' plays beautifully with only a couple of very light ticks and the 'spoken' section is the same with just two static ticks just after. As the classic 'vocal' begins the power and depth of the audio is so powerful and it just envelops the room in all its glory! It continues in exactly the same way and the 'high octane' section has never sounded better! The quieter section that follows plays with sublime clarity but unfortunately there are three loud pops right at the end due to the smallest of scratches that you will ever see! The majority therefore is Near Mint but is only G- for three seconds at the very end.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 'cash register' intro on 'Money' plays perfectly as does the iconic bass riff that soon follows. The opening two verses are of the same 'high end' standard and the instrumental section, starting with the sax solo, is STUNNING! In essence it could not play any better and you can turn it up to max without fear of distortion! The playback is so strong and dynamic and every section is 'as new'. The final verse is also faultless and this classic has to grade as Mint it is that good and that includes the long fade out.
The intro on 'Us And Them' has barely any static and then plays with great clarity as the music comes in. The opening sax section is 'as new' and the first vocal is the same with no intrusion. From then on it plays as a hardly played vinyl should - with amazing clarity and depth. Every 'high octane' passage and all the quieter sections have no interference and again it's the sheer depth of the music that really stands out. This is audio of the highest order and rarely does this classic play so well. It plays with immaculate precision to the very end and whilst I should perhaps grade as Mint I will say Mint- just to be on the safe side!
'Any Colour You Like' has no 'background' at all, just a couple of barely audible dust ticks. Mint
The opening refrain on 'Brain Damage' is super clean and the first verse has no interference either. The second verse is equally as impressive and 'chorus' can only be described 'as new'. It continues to play with a sonic quality that cannot be underestimated and to the end it plays to the highest standard with no intrusion. A stunning Mint version.
'Eclipse' ends this timeless classic with sublime quality from the first note to the last. It so often plays with a fair amount of distortion and yet the playback here is unbelievable! The power, depth and clarity of the audio is up there with the strongest I have ever encountered and the quiet 'heartbeat' ending has only very minimal static. It would be Mint apart from that but Mint- is still a fair assessment of the audio. What a side!
In summary this early pressing plays to a superb standard and S2 in particular is immaculate! S1 is not far behind really and the only interference is that brief three second passage at the end of 'Great Gig'. A shame because the rest of the side plays with wonderful clarity and depth. The vast majority of this record plays to a Mint standard and there is no denying the sonic quality on offer here. A superb 'package' overall.
The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve
The cover is in great condition with hardly any shelf wear, it has been so well preserved down the years. The edges have only very minimal rubbing and the spine is also very clean with only a couple of minor specks. There is very little corner wear, just a tiny but more bottom right, and the opening edge has a hint of feathering near the top. The front cover is very clean with marking and the back cover is almost as good with only minimal ringwear. The inside of the gatefold is in lovely condition and has no fading/marking at all. A fine example overall.
The original die-cut inner has no side splits or tears and only a couple of small marks on one edge. There is also very little creasing.
The Posters & Stickers
The original posters are in perfect condition with no tears or marking and the Fasprint stickers (with brown diagonal stripes on the back also) are also immaculate. They all could not look any better!
