The Final Cut (1st Press)

This first pressing is in excellent condition and whilst there is some intermittent static the audio remains very clear.  The gatefold is very possibly the best example I heave ever seen.  The original black inner is also in perfect condition.

The vinyl is visually very impressive and retains a lovely glossy sheen.  It has only ever been lightly played as I can only detect one tiny spindle trace on S1 and only 3/4 traces on S2.  It is extremely clean and has only a very small number of mega faint hairlines on each side plus a couple of very faint marks.  The labels and run out grooves are also super clean and overall this is a great example of a first pressing.

Play grading  

'The Post War Dream' has some static on the intro but isn't that always the case?!  Once the vocal begins there is very little static and the playback is much cleaner.  From then on the clarity is superb with only the odd light static tick and the end section in particular is stunning.

The segue into 'Your Possible Pasts' is nigh on perfect and the intro has only minimal static.  The first chorus plays in immaculate style and the remainder is very similar.  The quieter sections have only a touch of mega light intermittent static but the vast majority plays beautifully and there are no clicks or pops.

'One of The Few' again plays impressively with great clarity and barely any 'background'.  Such a quiet track and yet the playback could hardly be any better, a stunning Near Mint version without doubt.

'The Hero's Return' goes one better and qualifies as Mint- the playback is 'high end' to say the least.  There is no interference and the depth and separation of the audio is superb.

'The Gunners Dream' begins so quietly and yet the clarity of the recording is so good.  Not bad for a 36 year old record!  There is barely any static and it continues in exactly the same way.  The sax solo is stunning and the following verse has a little static for a few seconds but it is not intrusive.  To the end it plays with superb sound quality and there is only a minimal amount of light static on the quiet end section.

'Paranoid Eyes' ends the side with fantastic clarity again.  There are a small number of static 'ticks' on the intro but very little static besides.  It plays with wonderfully clear audio from start to finish and just one soft click towards the end.

'Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert' has some light static but this is so common on this track.  I always find the opening grooves on the first and early pressings always play with some 'background'.  It is by no means major and the audio still plays very clearly.

'The Fletcher Memorial Home' plays very clearly from the outset with a little static here and there but nothing intrusive.  Thereafter the audio is of excellent quality with very little 'background', just the odd mega light static sound.  The guitar solo plays 'as new' and to the end it plays extremely well but with a little static again.

'Southampton Dock' plays with impeccable clarity and there is hardly any static, just some static 'ticks' right at the end.

'The Final Cut' plays very clearly from the very first groove and again there is very little static.  As it progresses the audio just gets better and better!  The depth of the audio on the louder sections is stunning although the second quiet verse has a little static again.  From then on it plays with very strong audio and only a minimal hint of static on the end section.

'Not Now John' is very impressive and has no 'background' at all and no distortion either which is a rarity.  Stunning power from start to finish and is 'as new'.

'Two Suns In The Sunset' has great clarity on the intro with barely any static.  From then on it plays to an excellent standard and provides a suitably impressive ending to the album.  There is no intrusive 'background' aside from one click towards the end and the fade out is stunning.

The Gatefold

This is stunning!  So often found in poor condition today this one has been beautifully preserved down the years.  The top edge of the back cover has only 3/4 minor rubs but the other edges are in fantastic shape as is the wide spine.  The opening edge is also 'as new'.  The corners have only a miniscule amount of wear.  The front cover is just so clean it is in perfect order as is the sticker and the same applies to the back cover.  The inside of the gatefold is immaculate and could not be any cleaner.  A pristine example of this gatefold.

The original die-cut poly-lined sleeve has no splits or tears and no real creasing either.

The labels

They are in great condition with only minimal spindle wear and no marking or writing.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
