The Wall (1st Press)

This iconic album has audio of a wonderful standard for the vast majority.  S3 has the collectable A1 matrix and the album comes complete with the original cream coloured gatefold and superb lyric inners.

The vinyls are in lovely condition and whilst there is some spindle wear there is not a great amount.  There are some faint hairlines which have been caused by sleeve removal, a regular occurrence with the thick card inners.  However, there are no scratches or marks and they have always been carefully handled by their previous owner and they both retain a glossy sheen.

Play grading  

S1 plays with superlative audio.  The clarity is stunning for such an early press with hardly any static and there are certainly no clicks or pops.  The quiet intro on 'In The Flesh' is very clean with minimal 'background'.  The majority of this side grades as Mint- and 'Another Brick In The Wall part 2' is a classic example of this.  'Mother' is not far behind and has only a small number of light static sounds.  It plays with real distinction and is a 'high end' version without doubt but with some crackle literally on the last groove or two.  An incredible start to this album.

'Goodbye Blue Sky' on S2 has a little 'hiss' in the background for a short while and a little static but it is not particularly intrusive and the music still plays very clearly.  The remainder of the side plays with lovely clear sound.  No clicks or pops, just a minimal amount of quiet static in a handful of places, nothing that interferes with the quality of the listen though.  'One Of My Turns' has perhaps just a little more static on the intro  but again it is still very quiet.  'Goodbye Cruel World' ends the side with only a little 'background', very impressive for a near 40 year old vinyl.

'Hey You' plays with immaculate audio with only small number of very light dust ticks on the intro.  The clarity is exceptional and rarely will you hear such 'high end' sound on an A1 side.  The quiet sections on this side play with supreme clarity and only a minimal amount of static although there is about 10 seconds of light crackle prior to 'Nobody Home'.  Thereon it plays with superb clarity.  'Comfortably Numb' plays with fantastic quality from the word go.  A couple of static sounds and then pure unadulterated audio pleasure from then on!  The audio has such a rich, well defined depth it easily grades as Near Mint and the iconic guitar solo plays loud and true and with barely any of the distortion that you so often find.  Wow!

S4 is in a word...stunning!  The depth and clarity on this side is astounding.  From the very first note there is almost no interference and every track plays to the same exacting standard.  I just cannot impress enough just how good this plays!  A true indicator of any vinyl is how well the quiet tracks play and 'Stop' is just perfect from all the way through.  3/4 dust ticks during 'The Trial' and that's about it.  'Outside The Wall' ends this classic album with the lightest of background static.  A near perfect side without doubt.

The Gatefold

This gatefold is in excellent shape with only very minor shelf wear.  The edges are in superb condition with no rubbing and only the bottom right corner has a small amount of creasing/wear.  The wide spine is also in great shape with only minor wear right at the bottom, I missed it first time round!  The opening edges have barely any handling wear.  This cover is notoriously difficult to keep clean due to its 'white' nature but this one has retained its original 'look' extremely well.  There is no discolouration and only a small number of tiny spots and just a hint of ringwear.  Not very visible!  The inside of the gatefold is in superb condition with no marking/wear whatsoever.  Overall a lovely example of this iconic gatefold.

As per all the early pressings the gatefold is cream coloured and has misaligned bricks.  The band members are not listed on the inside.

Lyric sleeves

They are both in near perfect condition and have no splits or marking at all.  Only the second one has a small number of veery faint spot marks.

The labels

They are very clean and have no marking/writing and whilst there is some spindle wear it is not excessive.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers

The records have been professionally cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
