Description

I'm offering for auction Pink Floyd's classic, The Dark Side of the Moon, an Original Master Recording from the renowned Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL 1-017) pressed in Japan.  I've owned this album since I bought it new back around 1980.  It has been played a number of times, but not in the past 20 years except most recently when I play-graded it for this auction.  It was graded on a Rega Planar 2 turntable with RB-200 tone arm and Ortofon OM-10 cartridge (1.75 g).  I rank the overall package VG+/VG+ (see guide below).  The jacket is in very good condition, the gatefold cover still stiff to open.  The bottom right corner is slightly turned up and when viewed on an angle in light I could detect slight smudging from handling, and there are minor signs of wear along the outer edge of the front gatefold.   Also, I must mention that back then I made a practice of applying (neatly) a strip of transparent tape to the spine of select new albums to prevent any external damage.  On this jacket, the tape is still intact, but has yellowed a bit.  Other than that, the jacket looks very good.  Visually, I detected an approximatley 1-1/2 inch scuff or light scratch on side 1 of the record itself that covers the tracks "Time" and "On the Run", but during my play-grading session, it did not manifest itself as a major nuisance.  Other than that and the occassional surface noise, it sounded excellent.  I did rate this VG+, but this record must rank at the very high end of that category - it'll be tough to let go of!  The grading system I use is as follows.

Grading: Following is the system of grading I use – it is interpreted from Goldmine.  Jackets (outer sleeves) are graded first, followed by the record (e.g. VG+ /NM-).

Mint (M):  New condition.

Near Mint (NM):  Nearly a record with no obvious signs of wear; a perfect jacket with no more than the most minor defects and signs of slight handling.

Very Good Plus (VG+):  A very good-plus record will show signs that it was played, but was taken good care of by the previous owner. Record surface may show slight signs of wear or minor scuffs that do not affect play. Outer jackets may have slight wear, lightly turned up corners.

Very Good (VG):  A very good record will show groove wear and may have a few vinyl imperfections which will affect the sound. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during the song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise.  Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.  Jackets will show slightly more wear with perhaps a frayed top edge, ring wear or seam breakdown.

Good (G) / Good Plus (G+):  A good record will show significant wear and /or scratches, but will play through without skipping. It will have considerable surface noise. Jackets may have seam splits at the bottom and spines, tape, writing, ring wear, stickers and other defects that will start to overwhelm the item. A good or good-plus item is usually acquired to fill a hole in a collection until a better copy comes along.

Mailing:  The item will be packaged and mailed in a professional-grade LP box with cardboard and/or thin foam pads and bubble wrap.  International buyers, please see "see all details" to better estimate the postage to your location.  Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges.  These charges are the buyer’s responsibility.  Please check with your country’s customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying.  These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (shipping) company or when you pick up the item – do not confuse them for additional shipping charges.  If there are any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Returns:  Please contact me with issues regarding any unacceptable items (none anticipated, but it might happen).  There is a solution to every problem!
