UK FIRST PRESSING DOUBLE VINYL LP WITH ORIGINAL CARD LYRIC INNER SLEEVES AND THE PLASTIC TITLE STICKER. This copy has the correct unaligned cream/purple grey bricks, the heavy two-seam card sleeve that has no band credits, the three catalogue number card inners and the transparent sticker.

'The Wall' was pressed in massive quantities prior to release, and almost as soon as it hit the stores it required re-pressings, which resulted in a variety of minor changes to label/sleeve credits and so forth. There are 23 known 'The Wall' 1st pressings catalogued at the pinkfloydarchives website, namely, matrix combinations pressed up prior for the first release - this album was never pressed in a straight, simple A1/B1 manner because multiple stampers were pressed from the original master tapes at The Mastering Lab in Los Angeles and a enormous pressing-run operation took place - because of this, 'The Wall' was probably over-pressed from the stampers and the quality of the vinyl is often poor. Copies that appear near mint can be crackly or worse. When this LP came out I returned quite a few before I got a quiet playing copy on all sides for my personal collection - Floyd audiophiles have bemoaned the lack of quiet first pressing playing copies of this album ever since it was released.

Aside from the matrix combinations, which must all have TML (for The Mastering Lab) in the run-out grooves, the important details for determining that your copy is a true first pressing are:
Band members are not listed on the inside cover.
Cream cover and purple brick outlines.
No bar code on cover.
There are two cover variations:
Front Cover #1: A brick wall that is is cream coloured, not true white, with the brick outlines in purple-blue-grey. The cover is made from a single sheet of wrap-around cardboard with the seam across the inner top edge of the cover. The bricks on the front cover are not aligned right to the bottom of the cover.
Front Cover #2: A brick wall that is cream coloured, not true white, with the brick outlines in purple-blue-grey. The cover is made of two sheets of cardboard, with seams at the top and bottom of the cover. Cardboard is heavier thickness than the one-seam cover.
Inside Cover: The credits on the inside cover do not list the members of Pink Floyd. It only says "Words and Music - Roger Waters."
Cover Sticker: First issues had a transparent sticker on the front cover that says (in black Scarfe lettering): "Pink Floyd The Wall."
Inner Sleeves #1: Heavy cardboard inner sleeves with rounded corners and a nine-inch thumb notch at the top. Sides 2 and 4 have the catalog number of the specific record listed on a single line in the lower right corner.
Inner Sleeves #2: Heavy cardboard inner sleeves with rounded corners and a nine-inch thumb notch at the top. Sides 2 and 4 have the catalog number (SHDW 411), pressing number (OC-158 63410), and the record number (SHSP 4111) in the lower right corner.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, ALL SIDES PLAY WITH SUPERB AUDIO. NO SKIPS OR JUMPS, NO NOTICEABLE GROOVE WEAR, AND NO DETRIMENTAL SURFACE NOISES. WE HAVE NEVER HEARD A COMPLETELY SILENT PRESSING OF THIS ALBUM, IT WAS OVER-PRESSED FROM THE STAMPERS IN A HURRY TO MEET A RELEASE DATE, BUT WE CAN HONESTLY SAY THIS IS ONE OF THE QUIETEST COPIES WE HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE OF OFFERING FOR SALE.
