PINK FLOYD - UMMAGUMMA

A truly superb copy of this rare and highly sought after very first 1969 UK pressing of this Pink Floyd/prog rock classic, on the Harvest label, stereo SHDW 1 & SHDW 2

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  SHDW 1 A - 1  with stampers "2" and "G M" at 8.30 o'clock and 2.30 o'clock respectively

Side 2  SHDW 1 B - 2  with stampers "1" and "G M" at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively

Side 3  SHDW 2 A - 1  with stampers "1" and "L" at 7.30 o'clock and 1.30 o'clock respectively

Side 4  SHDW 2 B - 2  with stampers "1" and "R D" at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively

This is a rare original, beautiful condition UK original pressing of this classic Pink Floyd LP with the following 1st pressing unique characteristics :

1. Earliest A-1, B-2, A-1, and B-2 dead wax matrices;

2. the usual "EMI" boxed label is missing from each of the labels;

2. On the side 4 label the word "Grand" is misspelt as "Gand";

3. On the reverse side of the outer gate fold sleeve, right at the bottom, the word "London" is misspelt as "Londen"

The appearance of each of the flat, thick vinyls is near mint. Gleaming vinyls with jet black lacquering and no marks at all. If you look very closely, and under a bright light, you might just be able to make out a very occasional, small, pencil thin paper scuff but these are insignificant. Utterly superb condition vinyls and clearly having been played barely at all. So very, very rare to come across this record with both vinyls in such stunning condition. I rarely use the words "near mint" but I do believe that in this instance these are the adjectives which are applicable to the appearance and condition of each of these vinyls. Wonderful!

The labels are excellent+. Beautiful matt textured labels with barely any abberrations/blemishes at all. The Harvest logo, the matt yellow background, and all black text are perfectly intact on each label. On side 2 and side 3 I could just (under an intense light) make out two very small and very faint spindle trails on each label but you will have to look really hard to detect them. Note the absence of the usual "EMI" box logo, indicative of very first pressings.

The outside laminated Ernest J Day gate fold sleeve is a solid excellent. Such an iconic sleeve, and so rare to come across an original let alone an original in condition as impressive as this. Amazingly there is no scuffing or rubbing on any of the edges, the opening sides are firm with no feathering, and each corner is a well defined right angle. There is just a little rubbing on the bottom right reverse side corner - very minor indeed. The spine is also excellent, remaining rigid with no scuffing and all text perfectly intact and completely legible. There are a few very small age discolouration dots on the top half of the spine. The only other blemishes, each of which are very minor, are a small area (twice the size of my thumb nail) of laminate lifting at the top left corner of the reverse side, a very small (hardly detectable) residue remain of an old sticker at the top left corner on the front side, and some very light diagonal laminate scuffing on the front side, including a very small (1.5cm) line of laminate lift just below Roger Waters' nose, which is only detectable when holding the cover at an angle in a bright light. I stress that each of these are very minor blemishes and do nothing to detract from the overall appearance of the gate fold where all art work, colouring, and text remains rich, clear, and in tip top condition. The inside of the gatefold is also excellent+ with no blemishes to speak of and just the merest hint of a little age discolouration in a couple of places towards the top edge. Brilliant!

Finally, the quality of the audio is simply stunning. No clicks, no skips, no background interference or crackle, just great stereo audio reproduction with brilliant tone and clarity throughout even on the higher frequencies and at higher volume. Yes, there might be the very occasional nano-second of static caused by a speck of dust in one of the grooves through decades of storage, but actually no more than what you would expect from a brand new record. It really doesn't get better than this. Just lie back and wallow in the superb sound of this brilliant Pink Floyd album!

Comes with original plain white inner sleeves with the original PATENT NO...." and "MADE IN ENGLAND" text, and each of which have no splits or tears - just a few very minor age discolouration spots (insignificant) and remaining 100% fully functional. Note that I always post the record in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.

In summary a truly excellent+ copy of this highly rare and sought after 1969 UK very 1st pressing prog rock classic - there can't be many 1st pressings of this Floyd classic in condition as good as this - and worthy of gracing any vinyl collection.

I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
