Wish You Were Here A1/B5 (Very early pressing)

This classic album plays with superb audio overall and includes the postcard and the lyric inner with the cropped corners.

Visual grading

This vinyl is in great condition for its age and has only a small number of very faint hairlines.  There are no scratches and it retains a lovely glossy sheen.  There is just one spindle line on S1 and only a 4/5 wispy traces on S2, this vinyl has not been played a great deal and has been very carefully handled.

Play grading  

The intro on 'Shine On...' starts superbly but there is then a 20 second section of crackle.  Thereafter it plays with stunning clarity and only the odd light dust tick here and there.  Apart from the intro the vast majority of this classic plays as Near Mint, the playback is of a very high standard with incredible depth and precision, a fantastic listen.  The fade out has barely any 'background'.  The intro on 'Welcome To The Machine' has some very light crackle but once the track 'kicks in' the audio is incredibly good with only a handful of dust ticks and even the quiet end plays sublimely with very little 'background'.

'Have A Cigar' on S2 has wonderful Mint audio from start to finish, there is no other grading for it.  As is so often the case on these early pressings the 'Wish You Were Here' intro does have some light crackle although the radiophonic/music section still plays very clearly.  It has certainly decreased by the time the vocal begins and very soon disappears completely and then plays with stunning clarity, just the odd dust tick.  I must stress that from the vocal section onwards the audio is of an excellent standard and does not disappoint.  The quiet intro on 'Shine On...Part Two' again has some static/light crackle but decreases considerably as the track progresses.  The louder middle section plays with perfect sound and the rest plays very clearly and with only light static here and there although there is some light crackle that is more obvious on the fade out.

Cover

The cover is in superb shape and at first glance looks almost as new.  The edges and thin pinched spine have no shelf wear and even the corners have almost no rubbing although the bottom two do have a minor amount of creasing.  The front cover is extremely clean and has only one small thumbnail type mark and very minor fading around the edges and the back is even cleaner.  Both sides have retained their 'whitesness' impeccably well and the opening edge has no handling wear to speak of.  A fantastic example of this iconic cover.

Lyric Inner & Postcard

The inner has the three cropped corners without any splits and has no marking on either side.  It is one of the cleanest I have seen in along time and has only has a few small creases around the edges.

The postcard, with serrated edges, has a tiny amount of creasing on a couple of corners and is fantastic condition.

The labels

They are very clean with barely any spindle wear.  S2 does have a faint swipe type mark on it that can only be seen at a certain angle.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been professionally cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
