ANOTHER ORIGINAL PINK FLOYD UK PRESSING FROM MY PERSONAL COLLECTION! STORED IN A CASE FOR THE BEST PART OF 30 YEARS WITH THE VINYL SEPERATED FROM THE SLEEVE AND COVER THE WAY THAT I HAVE ALWAYS STORED MY VINYLS!!! THIS LOOKS LIKE IT HAS ONLY EVER BEEN PLAYED A HANDFUL OF TIMES TIME EVER !

Wish You Were Here is a concept album by Pink Floyd. Recorded at Abbey Road Studios between January and July 1975 and released on September 15 1975 (see 1975 in music), the album would later be regarded as one of Pink Floyd's greatest albums and was ranked 209 on Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. Its lyrics, composed by Roger Waters and concerning the music industry, question the market-oriented record companies' lack of understanding and interest for musicians. The album also pays tribute to Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd's former guitarist and chief songwriter, especially "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", and the title track itself!!

The Dark Side of the Moon had proved to be a phenomenal success, bringing Pink Floyd into the public spotlight, and the band's members began to worry how they could ever follow up such a masterpiece. After a brief flirtation with recording an album without using musical instruments, the band began honing three extended live songs over the next two years: "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," "You Gotta Be Crazy" and "Raving and Drooling". In the process, however, "Shine On" became too long to fit on a single side of a vinyl album and at the behest of Waters the band split it into two halves, composing new material to fit between them. Waters convinced the band to temporarily drop the other songs (a decision that guitarist David Gilmour fought against), which later became, respectively, "Dogs" and "Sheep" on the Animals album. Waters' newer compositions documented the band's current outlook (with the lyrics of the title track "Wish You Were Here" alluding to their boredom and frustration with music) and caricatured the negative aspects of the record business (on "Welcome to the Machine" and "Have a Cigar")!!!.

Wish You Were Here was Pink Floyd's first album with Columbia Records, their new label for the rest of the world (in Europe they remained with EMI), which they signed with in 1973 for a reported $1 million after the success of The Dark Side of the Moon. This change in labels stemmed from the band's dissatisfaction with Capitol Records, who had under-promoted the band in America prior to Dark Side. The deal with Columbia (and its subisidiaries outside the US CBS Records and later Sony Records) gave the band complete artistic control and also ownership of their own compositions and albums from this point forward would be copyrighted to the band instead of the label!!.

The crafting of the album saw tensions rise within the band. Wish You Were Here would be the last Pink Floyd album to see a writing credit for keyboardist Richard Wright until The Division Bell in 1994, and essentially the last Pink Floyd album where the whole band actively contributed to the process of creation; hereafter Roger Waters was to strengthen his grip on the band's output, writing the bulk of their material. Despite these difficulties, band members Gilmour and Wright confirmed on the radio show In the Studio with Redbeard that Wish You Were Here remains their favorite Pink Floyd album!!!.

The vinyl

On initial inspection this retains it super glossy sheen from new and does look awesome! I can barely see a blemish. I can't see any needle or audio sounding marks at all.  It is quite obvious visually that this has been barely ever played in my opinion. Only if looked at under a strong light could possibly any sleeve removal marks\scuffs be seen but you would have to look hard to see any. Due to the thick card type record sleeve that was issued with this vinyl many vinyl ere damaged over the years by dirt and dust that scratched the vinyls surface in these sleeves! This vinyl has been stored seperate from the sleeve and cover for at least 25 years for protection , this is how I hasve always stored my vinyls!

The Audio Quality

I have played this through track for track at a very loud volume on a top system! The first thing to note is that the audio is cristal clear and vibrant through out without any signs of distortion what so ever! It is also very obvious that this has been barely played ever! It is also important to note that it is easy to be critical about these mid seventies pressings, I have heard many copies of this album over the years. Please allow for some light static crackle\ticks perhapes heard during some of the quiet parts! In particular i heard this static \crackle\ticks at the intro to ''Shine on you crazy diamond'  and I heard just two louder static ticks but as soon as the audio starts this was soon forgoten.(The two static ticks mentioned could be where a needle has been dropped at this point but i can't see any evidence of this it could also be dirt trapped in the grooves) There was nothing too detrimental to the overall awesome audio experiance in my opinion! In fact side 2. played through almost perfect on my system! Please note that I play these vinyls at very loud volume, also some other systems may not be as sensitive as my system which picks up every peice of dust and dirt during the audio! This audio must be at least excellent to excellent plus!!!

It is important to note that this vinyl has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 25 years! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static ticks\crackle! It was evident after the play of this vinyl that trackes of residue was left on the playing surface after play! A constant clean before each play is highly recomended! This will also reduce any static and enhance the audio quality!

Please remember that this is a 34 year old vinyl that would have originally been playred on a 34 year old system!

The labels

These are the original custom Harvest labels look almost as ne in my opinion ! You really have to look hard to find any spider marks at all! It is obvious that this has barely been played!

UNBELEIVABLE FOR A 33 YEAR OLD PINK FLOYED ALBUM!!!!! 

The record sleeve

This is the original thick card sleeve contains the lyrics on one side! A small split has started to show at the bottom edge only this is strong and straight must be excellent!

The Cover

This is very rare to ever find in the original Black poly sleeve with the original sticker (very collectable indeed) Please note ! The cover has never been out of the original poly sleeve ever and is as new!

The Postcard

This album is complete with the original serated edged postcard in superbe condition (very important to note! only the original UK press feature the serated edge postcard later press do not feature this!!!!
