This genuine first press plays with superb audio and very little intrusion. There are no clicks or pops and the only background is some very light static but only a minimal amount with nothing that you would deem intrusive. The vast majority of 'Shine On...' on S1 plays with stunning clarity and S2 is even better! In my opinion it has the cleanest version of 'Wish You Were Here' that I have ever heard. So often the intro has a fair amount of static, especially on the first pressings, but the clarity of sound here is stunning to say the least. The only background across the entire side is a little light static on the 'Shine On... (Part 2)' intro. I cannot emphasise enough just how well S2 plays!
The cover is still contained within the original shrink and has been preserved so well with barely any wear, it has retained its original shape and structure perfectly. The lyric inner is one of the rarer versions with the side opening / three cut corners and is in great condition. The original postcard is more or less perfect with only a couple of 'specks' on the serrated edges. On this first pressing 'Shine On...Part 5' on S1 is credited to (Wright-Waters-Gilmour), later pressings have (Waters) only. There is no HTM on the run out either.

Visual description
The vinyl is in excellent condition with a strong glossy look and has no marks or scratches. Under a bright light I can see some faint hairlines but there is nothing that stands out as such and they have barely any impact on the audio. Under a more 'forgiving' light the vinyl is in lovely condition so these hairlines are purely superficial. The run out grooves are very clean and the labels are near perfect with hardly any spindle wear.
Play Grading
The intro on the all time classic 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' plays very clearly with only minimal background static. This is mainly at the start - light to begin with and even lighter as Wright gets into his stride. From one minute onwards the clarity is stunning and Gilmour's first introduction is close to perfect with barely any static. Sublime clarity! As the volume decreases there is a little static as Gilmour's plays his second piece and as Mason joins in the audio is flawless. Great depth and range and no intrusion. This instrumental with Gilmour leading it just could not play any better. The quieter passage that follows has very little static and the next guitar section plays with genuine precision once more with zero interference. The first vocal as you approach the 9 minute mark is STUNNING, the instrumental bridge is perfect, and the second vocal is as clean and precise as the first. Parry's sax solo section plays with unbelievable quality and the closing section plays with great clarity also with only a minor touch of light static right at the end. It has to be said that the vast majority plays with a superb sonic quality and there are no clicks or pops and any light static is kept to a minimum. I think ranging between Ex and Mint- is an honest appraisal, but a lot more of the latter!
'Welcome To The Machine' has only minimal light background start and as the 'industrial sounds' come in the playback is extremely clean. Gilmour's opening vocal is practically 'as new' with only a couple of minor statics and the instrumental section is very similar with only 2/3 static sounds in the background that you could easily miss. Superb audio though! The next vocal is indeed perfect and Wright's closing piece plays with exceptional clarity also. The 'industrial' / audience section has only a little static and you can clearly hear the double 'pop' type sound and the cough right at the end! Here I would grade the intro and closing section as Ex and everything in between as Near Mint

The intro on 'Have A Cigar' has just one very quiet dull sounding tick at the start, the rest perfect. The opening vocal is 'as new' and it continues in the same way. There is no intrusion and the sonic quality is second to none. Superb separation, every note so clean, and the instrumental plays with stunning quality also. This is easily a Mint- start to the side.
The segue into 'Wish You Were Here' is for once very impressive. This radiophonic section is so often affected by a lot of static but there is barely any here, the clarity of sound so impressive. The spoken section is so clean as is the radiophonic acoustic passage. You can hear every subtle nuance, every note and cough! The next acoustic section again plays with stunning clarity and this may well the finest intro I have heard of this classic track on a genuine first pressing. Gilmour's opening vocal is on the same level and the instrumental bridge is equal to that. The chorus plays beautifully and the closing instrumental is just as clean and fresh. This version grades as Mint- such is the quality of the music and I'm not sure I have graded one as high as that before, the definitive version you could say. It truly is a STUNNING version.
The 'wind' intro on 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part Two)' has only minimal light static and the first instrumental piece has only a little static right at the start. As Wright comes in the audio is so clean with barely any background, just one static tick, and Gilmour's opening solo is fantastic! So powerful and dynamic with no background. The vocal keeps up the standard with such a clean, warm sound and the first part of the long instrumental piece then plays with STUNNING audio. No static, ticks, clicks or pops. The handover into the second section is faultless and from then on the clarity of sound is as close to 'as new' that you will find. I only heard a couple of barely audible statics. The quiet end section / fade out is again unbelievably clean with only a couple of minor statics. This fade out is renown for playing with some background but not here! The opening section I will grade as Ex+ but from then onwards it has to be Mint- this side is plays with phenomenal clarity, depth and warmth for an A1/B3 first pressing.
The Cover, Lyric Insert & Postcard
As you can see the cover is still largely enclosed within the original shrink-wrap. It is open along the top edge and of course the opening edge but it remains firmly in place and I will not attempt to remove it! The top edge has no marking and the opening edge is pristine with no handling wear. The two right hand corners have no wear although I can see just one very small faint crease on the cover close to the bottom right corner. The remaining edges and left hand corners covered by the shrink are in superb shape with no knocks or dings. What I can see of the front cover is immaculate and the back cover (what is visible) is in lovely condition with just one tiny faint yellow spot. The 'handshake' sticker on the front is still perfectly in place. A superb example overall.
The lyric inner, with the side opening, is very clean with barely any marking and only a little ringwear. The bottom edge has one small rub in one corner and there is an even smaller barely visible one on the side edge. A great example and better than so many. The original postcard is practically 'as new' with only a couple of tiny edge rubs if I am being super-critical!

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
