Description
PINK FLOYD Wish You were here SHVL 814 Harvest UK first pressing with black shrink wrap + postcard / inner
Simply a classic album from one of the biggest bands ever -We are delighted to offer a first issue with the very elusive black shrink wrap -
most buyers of this album were so eager to hear the LP that the fragile wrap was soon opened and discarded.
Which is a shame as the black see through sleeve was part of sleeve designers Hipgnosis iconic cover idea -
While the inner sleeve photos represent the 4 elements water, earth fire and air - picked up in the lyrics to the title track.
The Black cover is a really neat visual trick to describe the album title along the lines of “ I know you are there but I can’t see you “
and at a another level - it picks up the second line of Shine on you crazy diamond “
Now there’s a look in your eyes -like black holes in the sky.
The shadow and spirit of founder member Syd Barrett hangs over this album .
the famous burning handshake sleeve photo which was even referenced in the London Olympic opening ceremony is an image of being both burnt by the music industry and burnt Out .
This is a first pressing with A1 and B3 Matrix - and comes with the “Pinched ends sleeve spine” -(see photos) which was a design element to help get the shrink wrap on -
Later pressings are the more conventional square shape

CONDITION
Sleeve is JUST UNDER EXCELLENT - by virtue of the shrink wrap has a small corner section missing and has been opened at spine side and top edge.
Rear Shrink wrap has a couple of creases ( see Photos) there is a small faint mark on front sleeve and light signs of wear at tips of spine but otherwise EXCELLENT
Postcard has a very light crease in lower right corner
Labels are Excellent
Vinyl is Excellent
Near Mint on Side One - Side Two has very faint surface marks probably caused by the card inner sleeve - Audibly Excellent with just the faintest crackle in the very quietest sections
So there we are - a bit of rock history from one of the best loved and well regarded UK bands .
