Description
PINK FLOYD / Dark side of the moon - 2nd. UK 1973 - with all Inlets complete ! TOP CONDITION !
Second Issue.
These copies were produced for a short time only, between first pressing and first repress, featuring earliest use of the new black Harvest "blue outline prism" label design.
These early transitional pressings, still have on labels the rim text starting as "The Gramophone Co. Ltd", and have been found with vinyl matrix A2/B2 or A3/B2 or A3/B3.
Gatefold cover of these copies come with two shade of color: very dark blue or black.
Many copies have been released with a sticker on front, although some do not have it.
The front cover has two different types of front openings:
- The right front opening of the gatefold cover is sealed with the two sides glued together.
- The right front opening of the gatefold cover is not sealed.
Rear top right corner has the text (IE 064 o 05249) between SHVL 804 and "stereo" centered (later copies have it left aligned).
Original set includes two A2-sized posters and 2 stickers.
Stickers have two different types of text on the back:
- "FasPrint Permanent" & "Crack Back Patented".
- "Permanent".
Some copies have a die-cut black polylined inner sleeve with patent number "1125555 1072844" and "Made in Great Britain" in silver at the bottom.
Recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London between June 1972 and January 1973.
Note on Credits:
Though not detailed in the liner notes, Barry St. John, Doris Troy, Lesley Duncan, and Liza Strike perform backing vocals only on tracks A4, B2, B4, and B5.

- krisjay May 16, 2024 Edited 6 months ago Second issue and second pressing are two different things. There are some who think the A3/B3 second "issue" is the one to own. I am one who likes it better than an A2/B2. There are fewer of the A3/B3 than there are the A2/B2, which technically makes this rarer and truthfully undervalued right now.

- Timhop Jun 7, 2023 Edited one year ago I have a beautiful copy of this pressing with all the extras, and i must say it does sound really great. Better than the MFSL half speed i have (which i find over-rated), but to be honest the best sounding, to my ears, in my collection (i have multiple copies, DSOTM being a slight obsession) is an Australian quadrophonic pressing, strange as that may sound. (I don’t have a million dollar system but it’s also by no means a piece of shit.)

- nevnevnev Apr 15, 2023 Trying to identify my copy, potentially as a new variant. Label has "blue outline prism" design and rear sleeve has centre-aligned text on the top-right as expected. Matrix runouts are SHVL 804 A-3 RMR (possibly RHR) with a potential scratched-out marker on the A-side, SHVL 804 B-2 PR on the B-side. Any assistance appreciated.

- liviuc2005 Mar 13, 2023 Got a A3/B3 copy, NM visually, with a lot surface noise. Anyone else with this bad luck?

- Vinyl_Dynamics Jan 15, 2023 Edited 6 months ago Mine’s an A3/B2. Despite it not being in stellar condition (VG+ for record and VG for gatefold - no posters or stickers) yet the sound quality is bloody staggering! Especially when I compared it to the 2016 BG cut, 2003 30th anniversary KG cut, 40th anniversary and finally some early AU stereo and quad pressings) Save for some ticking on track 2 due to a scratch, the vinyl on mine was commendably low on surface noise too (after a few wet cleans)

- krisjay Dec 16, 2022 A3/B3 pressings with the Gramophone labels are so full of life, they are a sonic wonder. If you have a clean one, hold tight it is a treasure.

- voicesofvinyl Jul 6, 2022 Edited 2 years ago Found a fairly clean copy of this (A3/B3) in a record store and just couldn't bring myself to not take it home with me. Even though I already owned the 2016 reissue and 2nd Japanese pressing, I wanted to see what all the hype was about regarding the early UK pressings. The 2016 reissue sounds terrific and the vinyl is very quiet, and the early Japanese pressing being fully analog definitely brings out more of the mid range, warmth, and dynamics that the recording has to offer.

Phenomenal musical journey everyone have to experience while alive.
I don't have first pressing to compare, but as for me A3/B3 sounds as good as it can be.
30th anniversary KG cut, however, very close second place, just upper end is not that sharp.
Sold my 2016 copy because it's digital and feels compressed.
From the first listen of this pressing however, as soon as the heartbeat comes in, I already knew this was going to be special. I know people use a ton of buzz words to describe just how amazing a pressing can sound, but I will save everyone the cliche's and just say this. I feel so strongly about this record that I have considered storing it in a fireproof safe so I don't risk losing it. If you come across a clean copy of an A3/B3 UK press and you have invested in a decent stereo, buy it. You will not be disappointed.
