PINOCCHIO: Decca Album No. 110- Original Release from 1939 / 4 X 78 RPM Records
Darbyncoates is pleased to offer a delightful classic among 78 RPM recordings, Decca Presents the Song Hits of Walt Disney's Pinocchio / Decca Album No. 100 / Records # 3000; 3001; 3002; 3003.
This from Wikipedia concerning the timeless and beloved tale of Pinocchio :
"M. Keith Booker considers the film to be the most-down-to-earth of the classic Disney animated films despite its theme song and magic, and notes that the film's protagonist has to work to prove his worth, which he remarked seemed "more in line with the ethos of capitalism" than most of the Disney films. Claudia Mitchell and Jacqueline Reid-Walsh believe that the male protagonists of films like Pinocchio and Bambi (1942) were purposefully constructed by Disney to appeal to both boys and girls. Mark I. Pinksy said that it is "a simple morality tale — cautionary and schematic — ideal for moral instruction, save for some of its darker moments," and noted that the film is a favorite of parents of young children.
"Nicolas Sammond argues that the film is "an apt metaphor for the metaphysics of midcentury American child-rearing" and that the film is "ultimately an assimilationist fable". He considered it to be the central Disney film and the most strongly middle class, intended to relay the message that indulging in "the pleasures of the working class, of vaudeville, or of pool halls and amusement parks, led to a life as a beast of burden". For Sammond, the purpose of Pinocchio is to help convey to children the "middle-class virtues of deferred gratification, self-denial, thrift, and perseverance, naturalized as the experience of the most average American"
The animated film Pinocchio was the 2nd animated full-length feature released by Walt Disney (Snow White being the 1st), and this album occupies an important position in the captivating early history of the music of animation. "When You wish Upon a Star" would later become the theme song of Walt Disney Productions- easily one of the most globally recognized tunes ever recorded.
There is some conflicting information regarding which of two 78 RPM releases is the "Original Soundtrack" for the 1940 Disney film Pinocchio (the other was a Victor product). Indeed, Wikipedia suggests that the release of the film coincided with the first commercial use of the term "Original Soundtrack".
In any event, Decca archives state the recording date for the music on this offered album as 12/14/1939. The songs on this Pinocchio album won Oscars in two categories at the 1941 Academy Award Ceremonies: for Best Song ("When You Wish Upon a Star") and for Music (Original Score).
Finding a copy of Pinocchio in great condition is quite a task. Appealing to all who are "young at heart", many of these original releases have been inadvertently mishandled by children, so that the attractive, investment-grade condition of these records and the album itself add a unique quality:
THE SHELLAC : The four records (and eight sides) have been well handled and lightly played, with clean, royal blue and gold labels. One label has a star sticker affixed to it (please see photos).
There are no chips or cracking visible, and the grooves are generally clean. The records retain their original black gloss. However, present are a few light scuffs and hairline marks, which place the visual condition grade at EX.
Please Note : Present is some intermitant audio distortion on some of the tracks, moreso on "When You Wish Upon a Star", which places its grade at VG+. Audio recording methods for these vintage 78's were not up to modern standards. It most definitely is not stereo. There is some light background noise throughout, and the occasional click and pop on the marks. We also play-graded the other six sides, confirming the EX grade.
THE COVER : EX+ : Present is some age-related wear, however the cover (like the records) has been well-stored and cared for. Great 1930's cartoon artwork (please see photos) / all of the seams, including the spine, are intact / no paper loss or paper tears / no writing or stains.
Please examine the photos of the record labels for tracklist information.
I have placed each record into a protective plastic sleeve within each original manila record jacket, to protect the condition of the recordings.
Don't miss this opportunity to acquire an important release in the history of recorded music.

RECORD GRADING DESCRIPTION:
THIS RECORD IS SIGHT-GRADED ONLY UNDER A BRIGHT LIGHT, ACCORDING TO THESE DEFINITIONS:
SEALED: RECORD IS WRAPPED IN PLASTIC & UNOPENED.
NM-: RECORD HAS LITTLE OR NO INDICATION THAT IT HAS BEEN PLAYED.
EX: MINIMAL SIGNS OF USE (LIGHT SCRATCHING/PAPER SCUFFS), BUT IN ALL A RECORD THAT HAS BEEN WELL-CARED FOR.
VG+: LESS CARE THAN EX, LIGHT SCRATCHING OR SCUFFING IS MORE EXTENSIVE. STILL VERY PLAYABLE & WILL LIKELY PROVIDE A QUALITY SOUND.
VG & BELOW: WHILE PLAYABLE, THIS RECORD HAS BEEN AROUND THE BLOCK. OBVIOUS SIGNS OF WEAR & SHOULD BE CONSIDERED TO BE IN A LOW GRADE. A RECORD GRADED BELOW VG MAY HAVE A VALUE BASED UPON ITS RARITY OR UNIQUENESS.
WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU CLEAN THIS RECORDING BEFORE PLAYING. RECORDS THAT ARE DECADES OLD CAN ATTRACT & ACCUMULATE DAMAGING FOREIGN MATERIAL THAT REDUCES SOUND QUALITY. THIS IS NORMALLY EASILY CORRECTED WITH A GOOD CLEANING.
